Speaking for me personally, if that wasn't the single most traumatic experience I've had on the island to date, it's because I've repressed the others and erased them from all consideration.

With that said, I woke up this morning without a mark on me, and after receiving an explanation and a billing statement, was unceremoniously evicted from the hospital and told to return to school. This isn't a complaint; except regarding the bill. Please don't take credit for treating my injury when the fact of the matter is that it disappeared on its own. Even if life is something it's impossible to set a value on, this is excessive. Also, after an event like that, it's clearly impossible for me to keep my mind on classwork, so I'll be absent for the remainder of the day. While technically it may count as 'French leave,' hopefully the response will be less drastic.

Obviously it was completely beyond my control, but nonetheless, I'm sorry if I worried anyone. No, excuse me, that's a terrible phrasing. I'm sorry that I worried everyone.

Although the nurses' account was somewhat confused, it sounds like you stuck with me through all of that. Thanks, Haruhi. If I vanished from the hospital during what turned out to be your lunch break, please believe that it wasn't my idea.

Ah... it's hard to figure out the right way to say this.

It's an embarrassing story in a lot of ways, so I never mentioned it.

I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be watching large-scale manufacturing. Without looking, I got too close to a piece of malfunctioning machinery. Thinking about it afterwards, it seemed more stupid than exciting. A traumatic accident that wouldn't have happened if I was paying attention.

But I'm feeling much better now.

What's with that super mundane accident?

I could say something like 'that's why I thought you wouldn't be interested,' but truthfully, I think I was considering my feelings more than yours. Even telling it this way... I apologize.

PEOPLE WHO GET STABBED DON'T GET TO APOLOGIZE!!

... Even as an arbitrary declaration of a weirdly specific rule, I'm inclined to endorse that whole-heartedly.

In any case... thinking about it, I suppose it's evidence that even before coming here, you and I lived in a stranger world than we'd usually imagine. You don't need to read between the lines to see that the odds re definitely stacked against something like that happening, however 'mundane' it was.

I don't know, maybe everyone just gets one thing. Like, one extraordinary experience, you know? And then that's it.

In which case I guess yours was wasted on getting stabbed by some stray piece of junk.

I think life in New Moore does a pretty good job of disproving that hypothesis off the bat.
