In the spectrum between dull and extraordinary, prom would likely in Haruhi's own world have rated only muted excitement; although she'd have viewed the opportunity to get dressed up favorably and she did hold something of a superstitious soft spot for these "once-in-your-youth" paradigmatic events during which exciting anomalies were statistically much more likely to occur, much like school festivals and summer vacation it would have primarily held interest for her as an opportunity to do something unnecessarily over-the-top and obnoxious rather than as an event in its own right.
Here in New Moore was an entirely different story, however, and after her experiences at Homecoming in the fall she was barely able to contain her enthusiasm. She'd of course made attendance at prom mandatory for club members (not that it'd really changed anyone's intentions), and she was currently hard at work thinking of how to finagle a club member (probably Kate) into the dance crown once again. So it wasn't a lie when she'd told Kyon that she didn't mind staying late.
Speaking of which, it was about time for her to meet him in front of the school, so she began loping cheerfully toward the main entrance. There was something to be said for this good mood, anyway; lately she'd been feeling more than a little blue.
