Hello!

I'm probably making too big of a fuss about this, but I wasn't even going to talk about it at all until a conversation I had the other day. It's just something about myself that I usually try to avoid talking about, because it's so strange, but in a place like this, it takes a lot to really be strange, doesn't it? There's superheroes and time travelers and stuff everywhere, so I'm probably pretty ordinary by comparison.

I want to talk about it, though. It might be nice to just get it out there instead of awkwardly trying to hide it through all of high school, too.

The thing I'm trying to get around to talking about is that I don't see other humans as being humans. Instead, I look at them and I see robots. The same goes for every living thing other than me, including in movies or photographs. I only know what they look like because of pictures and paintings and the like.

As far as my own perception of reality goes, I'm the only human in the universe. Is that too strange?

Strange, perhaps, but certainly not too strange, Yukari-san. That would be difficult on this island. It sounds very interesting, though also... slightly isolating, I suppose.

Do you know why you see the world this way?

I've always been like this, if that's what you're asking, but one possibility is that what I see is real.

It's certainly a possibility, of course.

So what kinds of things can you tell about a person by looking at them? I imagine that different things might make themselves evident.

I can usually tell pretty well what kind of things someone is good at, based on their design.

If I might ask, what can you tell about me, based on my design?

Not much, actually. You have some kind of back-mounted fins for radiating excess heat or energy, but I don't know what they're there for.

...Interesting. I wonder what that means.

I don't know. I've never seen someone with a system like that before...

If I might ask, what do Kyon and Haruhi look like?

Haruhi's a little hard to interpret... she's a sort of lightweight, high-speed mobile suit, but there were a lot of systems that I couldn't identify by looking at them. She has bunny ears, too.

Kyon... I guess just looks kind of like an ordinary robot.

Bunny ears. Why am I not surprised?

Is that something you'd expect? I still don't know her very well.

It is, after a fashion. There have been several incidents involving bunny ears in the past, and it can easily be thought of as representative of a number of different things about her.

You told me about it before. I don't really think anything's strange at this point.

Yeah, I told a couple people, but it's different saying it publicly like this.

If you were interested, I'm sure the members of the SOS Brigade would like to see sketches of how we look to you.

It probably goes without saying, but by our standards, there's nothing wriong with strangeness.

I'm really not a very good artist... it'd probably be better if I just tried to describe them, I guess.

That should be fine. I'm sure we can find a sketch artist of some kind.

That might not be bad. Do you know anyone like that?

I'm not sure. But it shouldn't take too much to find out.

What do robots look like?

Robots look like robots, too. There's no difference.

So if you saw a robotic being, you would assume it to be an autonomous sentient being, possessed of its own inherent dignity regardless of origin or agenda?

At heart, you're asking whether or not I think machines have souls, right?

I do.

In that case, would a cyborg have two souls?

I'm not exactly an expert, but I'd say that if they have one mind, they have one soul.
