[The yipping and growls of wrestling wolf cubs can be heard in the background - Aisling's voice sounds... older. More mature. But also harder, and more focused.]

These little ones will make good additions to the pack. They will grow up strong and healthy.

I need to increase my training. Exploring this place has not been enough. Captain, you should come with me. We will need to gain strength if we are to root out the evil in the future.

Are those wolves I hear?

Yes, of course. Are you ready? We should go hunt.

Me? I'm not sure I want to go hunting with wolves.

Especially not with someone I don't know in a place I don't know.

These wolves are not old enough yet. We hunt on our own. Otherwise there is little challenge.

...Captain, I hope you are feeling well.

'Captain'? Oh. Ohhhh. Were you talking to me up there? How'd you even know about that?

You do not remember. Something must have tampered with your mind.

You're not the first person to say that. Must've got trapped in a time loop somewhere where I came to a place I come to in the future... That happens sometimes.

[...She is not touching that with the tip of her father's magical spear. Ridiculous how humans invent all sorts of language for imagined concepts.]

This is not as rare a situation as most people think. As long as you are unhurt, it matters little. We have exchanged names before. You are Captain Jack Harkness. I am Aisling. We have frequently spent time together, exchanging information and keeping one another's skills sharp.

You seem very sweet, but I'm pretty sure I'd remember meeting someone as enchanting as you.

But you have information? Is it about the island? the inhabitants? visitors?

The island, and those who claim to rule here. Everyone has limited knowledge. I would offer what I know in exchange for some idea of what has befallen you.

I can't say I know. I was in my barracks last night with my partner, and I woke up and I was here, apparently busy needing to work on sorting out wayward time travelers.

Many are here against their will or understanding, whether or not they claim to be from outside time. Fixing them will prove difficult. The chiefs here keep everyone on this island, unable to leave it except by their permission. Strange things happen here, even by my understanding of things, with little or no explanation. You will find that it is not very restful.

And how long have you been here? You seem to know quite a lot about the area and how things work round here. Anything you think might be useful?

Some few seasons now. The authorities will rarely listen, unless you speak with those who are also members of the "fictional" people. Those like you and I. The wild things of the forest listen to me, so do not be afraid to enter it. And do not be surprised to find things of all different kinds living side by side. This place is a great mix of oddities.

What do you mean by oddities living side-by-side? What, you're making them do that?

Rowan and trees with great fronds instead of branches; great spotted cats and badgers; those who call themselves "trolls" and "witches" and those who are simply what they appear to be.

[Gently.] I don't make them live so. They have been brought here, like you and I, by the island people for an unknown purpose. We cannot get out. So we remain and do our best to discover how we may return home.

So... you're trapped. And you can't go home? That's actually really sad.

Listen... I'm from the the future... It's my job to come and sort weird temporal displacements out. I'm sure that's what's happening here... some sort of time lock.

I promise that I'll do my best to lift it and get you back home.
