We use the sonics to up the interference on the cables, creating static. If we measure how long it takes for the static to appear, assuming the cables don't bend too much, and assuming the resistance is constant, which it should be - any other design is just stupid - we can tell how long the cable is, and we might just be able to follow it down. Genius!

By the way, Doctor, someone seems to have found what may be the entrance to one of the underground dungeons, here. I figure we should check that out as soon as we've followed through on the cables.
