I'd love to, but I can't. After last week... official policy is we don't prosecute for actions taken by alternate timeline selves. The whole department's on overtime trying to keep the island from exploding over that decision.

[And with that, around 20 minutes later there's a tiny knock on Shepard's office door. She and Shepard both seemed to be in quite a hurry, so she just stopped for takeout along the way.]

[Shepard was quick to open the door, smiling conspiratorially, and locking it behind her. he moved over to his desk and punched a button on his phone.]

Sheska. I'm taking an hour for dinner. Hold my calls.

[He hung up again without waiting for an acknowledgement, and glanced back up at Kaylee, trying and failing to keep the mischief out of his smile. Why was it that breaking the rules, especially in risky, impulsive ways, was so much fun?]
