Well it's a big gourd-y sort of fruit, like a squash, that Americans carve scary faces into and put candles inside of for Halloween. That's what you were talking about, right?

We use turnips. [Thoughtful pause.] Are pumpkins the orange, round things that people are starting to put out around the town?

That's right!

I like turnips better.

Well then, I'll try to find you some big lantern-sized turnips!

I can set a place for someone at the feast, if you need me to. Someone who's gone.

[Also, Ukraine will have several new seedlings appear in the kitchen - dill, sage, mint, and a tiny bay tree.]
