Look Mom no... straps

Has this place never heard of a Gym before? I've been checking out the island and the highlights seem to be a Pizza joint and this... Well I think it's an Antique shop but I really don't know.

Anyway does the High School have like a weights room or something? Ideally with a punching bag seeing as some people - [Yes Kate, she means you...] - seem to think I should refrain from practising on living, breathing dummies...

Yeah, the high school has a pretty good gym if you need it. Plenty of punching bags to vent your frustration.

Punching bags are probably a good alternative.

If you need someone to hold the bag, I could make time.

Been meaning to check out the gym there, myself. I'm used to what my precinct has back home, and I'm not used to not having one here yet.

Let's be real. It's kind of hard to screw up pizza.

Finally! And they don't care of non-students use it? Cause I really don't want to enrol in High School just so I can use the gym.

Remarkably less satisfying though. [What. It was true!] But they'll do in place of a sparring partner. Don't see anyone suitable being easy to come by around here.

[Believe it or not this was Rose politely trying to suggest to Kate that she could get hurt doing something like this with somebody like her. Good thing Rose was never praised for her manners.]

I might spend my fair share of time pushing papers as a detective, but I've still got a standard to set. No one has any business on a tac strike if they don't have a chance in hell of out-muscling their perp if they end up unarmed.

[Unless of course they are Castle but that would be why Kate is always first through the door.]

I'd offer, but I'm not sure I'd be too good at it. My sparring skills are pretty rudimentary, like, eight grade self-defense levels.

Uh, I'm pretty sure you're enrolled even if you don't want to be, so long as you're high school age. How old are you?

[Yeah this is so going to end in somebody getting broken. Rose just doesn't know that potentially could be her.]

Wait. What! I'm eighteen. I thought... I was under the impression that just because I didn't do my last two years at a normal High School or whatever didn't mean that I still had to.

[Though mun is half inclined to find a loophole to make her go because Mun is evil like that.]

[Rose's lips are pressed into a line, not entirely sure if this is a good plan. She'd like to have somebody to train with but she figured training with a human wouldn't be all that different to training with a Maroi. Which basically meant, bad fucking plan.]

Oh hey no, trust me. I know a thing or two about taking on things that are bigger, stronger and faster than you. I'm not like you though, if you know what I mean?

[Plus, Rose had trained for that. She'd spent her whole life training for that and Kate, though capable looking. Rose really didn't want to get in the shit for breaking her. Breaking might be bad in terms of friendship.]

If by agreement do you mean, I'll try not to break you and you won't say I didn't warn you if I accidentally do? Cause... That would be a good agreement in my books. [Pause.] You sure you don't just wanna join me for a run every day?

[Kate figures whatever Rose is capable of doing to her can't be half as bad as what's been done to her already, so she's not that worried. She just nods.]

Yeah, that kind of agreement is fine. That, and I'm hoping you'll hold the bag for me, too. My current partner is lacking a little in the "keeping it steady" category.

[That and when she gets sweaty it distracts him.]

They might try to make you get a GED though. Or do you have one of those already? The whole idea of this island is to make us "society ready" -- whatever that means.

I'm free every afternoon. I've never been so bored in my whole life and I spent every holiday at my school living in dorms on my own.

[For what Kate knows about Rose, distracting her should probably be considered a public service. Because Kate suspects a bored Rose is probably a recipe for trouble.]

Bow and arrow? Not at all. I trained to fight in close quarters. Sort of... a necessity with what I do and I use mostly, short handled blades... kind of like a knife.

[And vague for the win it seemed.]

But yeah, that'd be decent. I mean I've had some offers for sparring partners I just need to be... Well I'd rather not have to hold back. If ya know what I mean.

[She's just gonna do her best to stifle a laugh before she ends the feed...

And I would say her birthday present should be the second time they spar? Since no one saw her lovely gift until 17th.]

I'm pretty good at fighting. And I'd rather you don't hold back -- I need to be prepared to take on anything.
