keep running

Who: Banner, his Shadow, and Souji's team
What: the rescue
Where: Shadow Culver University
When: the Dark Hour

The halls of Culver University are just like any other university at first. It's dark and eerie and abandoned, but what else would a place normally full of life be at night when there's nobody around? As the team makes their way through this seemingly endless maze, nothing challenges them.

There's a sound, then. It starts off as something of a hum. Distant voices so far away that you can't make out what they're saying. The halls begin to grow a bit more derelict. The floors are dirty, there's trash lying about. Soon, the team's surroundings turn into the streets of a slum. There's nobody here, but the buzz of unclear voices is still hanging in the air.

When it goes silent, there is an ambush. Huge, hulking Shadow Soldiers burst through the doorways, armed with guns and grenades. They are all faceless in their Army green uniforms. Physical and magical damage harms them, but they're resistant and persistent. They won't give up the fight until they're destroyed, and if you try to run, they'll chase you down. Still, that may be the best solution. Keep running, because the longer you stand and fight, the more it becomes apparent that the soldiers will keep coming for you. How many of them are there? Well, when one falls, another is there to take its place. They won't ever leave you alone as long as you're still breathing...

Once the team makes it out of the slum, the Shadow Soldiers return to wherever they came from, and the terrain changes yet again. Back to the halls of the university you go; another seemingly endless journey. How many miles has it been?

There aren't any more concentrated attacks, but once in a while stray Shadow Soldiers will pop out from doorways, and on one occasion, a Shadow Tank even bursts through the wall of the corridor.

Just when the team is probably starting to lose track of how far they may or may not have traveled, they arrive in a ruined lab. It may come as some surprise to find two Banners in the room and not a Hulk in sight--though after the battle with the Soldiers, that is probably seen as a blessing. They're greeted by the one with glowing red eyes, who is obviously the Shadow. With his hands shoved into his pockets and a familiar slouch to his posture, he could have easily been mistaken for the real Bruce if it weren't for those eyes. The real doctor is sitting atop a counter in the far corner, as out-of-the-way as he can manage. There are dark circles under his eyes and he's looking a bit thinner and paler than usual, but otherwise he's completely unharmed.
