[ When the feed turns on, there is one redhead who seems slightly freaked out. A small squeak escapes her lips before she manages to speak, slightly shaken up. ]

Eeeeek! I, um, where...

[ Her voice is soft, and her eyes are wide in fear. She doesn't know what's going on, and the explanation went right over her head. But soon enough, she sees the small little light. ]

O- oh!

Did someone leave their phone on? Um, um...!

[ She sounds nervous, and quite uncertain. Though she's trying her best to sound a little enthusiastic. ]

Hello, is this anybody's phone? If you lost it, I can give it back to you...

[ Little does she know that this phone is a lot different than the ones that she's used before, and she continues to stare at it with wide eyes before the feed turns off. Someone sure sounds bewildered. ]

[After several seconds of staring dumbly at the screen, he finally manages a response, sounding taken aback but quiet. Since he's been here a year, he's changed just enough for the differences to be evident at even a casual glance -- it's Kyon, but not Kyon from the exact same time-frame.]

[ The petite girl jumps back at the sound of Kyon's voice, surprised that she heard it to begin with. It's obvious that she's managed to drop the phone after hearing the all too familiar voice, but she manages to pick up the thing, trying not to clumsily drop it again because that would be bad. ]

... Kyon-kun?

[ She wants to be sure that it's really him, and not some fake or illusion. ]

That's right.

[The background of the video shows a shifting background -- Kyon is moving somewhere, walking as quickly and purposefully as he can.]

If you've just arrived, you're probably right outside the hospital. If that's right, I'll be right there, I'm less than a mile away so it should be a quick walk. It's probably best to give you a tour and get you settled in before calling Koizumi or Haruhi...

[He trails off, determination giving way to an uncertain expression, and then finally to a gentle smile.]

It's good to see you, Asahina-san.

Ah...

[ She opens her mouth again, and then closes it, realizing that if anyone can explain this craziness to her, Kyon probably can in the easiest way possible. So she just gives him a soft smile in return, nodding. ]

You too, Kyon-kun. I'll- [ She hesitates, closing her hands into tight fists before nodding, reaffirming her determination before speaking up again. ] I'll wait for you, Kyon-kun! Right here.

[It took Kyon less than ten minutes to dash outside, find the correct street, and hurry along the way, alternately jogging and peering self-consciously into windows to check his hair or straighten his tie. It seemed longer to him, but at last he was rounding the corner in front of the hospital, pacing himself just well enough that he wasn't out of breath... then stopping dead in his tracks, and nodding to himself in satisfaction. There she was.]

[ She can tell that there's something different about him, and she knows it. However, she's too relieved that someone she knows is actually here to think straight, as the beginnings of tears start to well up in her eyes before she runs towards him and pulls him into a hug, sniffling.

Sorry, Kyon, but even though she hasn't seen you for a little under an hour, she's just so happy. ]

K- Kyon-kun, you're really, really here...

[Ah... for a moment he's frozen, caught in the fulfillment of a long-held dream. Then he's patting her on the back, slightly stiff and awkward.]

Ah... that's right. We're only one away from having the whole Brigade back together, now...

[ Oh, right. Mikuru then takes some awkward steps back right afterwards, realizing that if Haruhi came in, they'd be for one hell of a explosion. And not the good kind, either. ]

One away? Um, who else is missing...

I haven't seen Nagato-san in a year...

[He sounds wistful, and, at the moment, unaware of the implications in what he just said.]

Oh.

[ Mikuru's voice is slightly soft when she hears him say that, but soon enough, the gears in her head start to whirl, making her realize something. ]

Um, Kyon-kun? Did you say... a year?

That's right.

You might be able to make more sense of it than me, but I got here a year ago. Haruhi & Koizumi have been here since last summer. It's late February, now... but as far as Haruhi's concerned, I'd only been out of sight two hours when she came here. I'm guessing that something like that is true for you, as well.

[It's a relief to unburden this to someone other than Koizumi. He hasn't been able to bring himself to fully explain Haruhi to anyone here, people who keep misunderstanding her anyway, and Koizumi's complacent smile and disturbing theories are something he's more than had enough of when it comes to this.]

[ The red haired girl just nods as she listens to him, trying to comprehend everything. ]

I... think I get it.

[ Well, the gist of it, anyway. Of course, the fact that it's February is a little unnerving, so she just has to ask the most obvious time travel question: ]

Um, Kyon-kun? What year is it?

[ Because late February doesn't cut it for her. ]

Locally, they say it's 2013.

[Close enough to where they came from, but of course not everything matches up exactly. Even before factoring in the strangeness of the island.]

I... see.

[ Mikuru nods several times, comprehending the situation. ]

Thank you, Kyon-kun.

You're welcome, of course.

[He nods in return, smiling maybe a little stupidly. Thank you, Kyon in that voice... that's one of his favorite things to hear.

Pull yourself together, Kyon.

After a moment he sighs gustily, presses his lips together, and looks back up.]

If you've already been given a room assignment, I can take you to the apartments. Or, if you'd rather get something to eat, there are a few restaurants along the way... whatever you need to build your strength.

I'm sure Haruhi will be glad to see you, but I don't need to tell you that there's no predicting her reaction, except to say with certainty that it will be forceful, whatever it is.

[ Mikuru takes an awkward step back, realizing that if she went out to eat with Kyon (and even moreso if a certain somebody saw them), she'd be in trouble. She gives him an awkward smile, obviously forced, before shaking her head several times, hoping that he gets the message. ]

We can't... if Suzumiya-san saw us together...

[ And she takes another step back for good measure. ]

[Sigh. A guy can dream, right?]

You know, I've had two dates since Valentine's Day, and the world didn't end then. I don't think two friends catching up is going to be as bad as all that...

[His tone is speculative, gentle, but he can't keep a little of the grumble out of it. No-one else seems to mind Haruhi's whims so totally shaping their lives. Maybe that's because, in a sense, that's their job. Kyon is more of a conscript, and in any case he has higher standards of job satisfaction.

That being said, it's true that he doesn't actually want to make Haruhi angry. There's been enough trouble lately, both on the island in general and for Koizumi in particular.]

...ah, but it's probably not worth the risk. Has Haruhi called or texted yet? If not, I'll just show you to the apartments. If she has...

[He trails off and shrugs. If she has, they'll both do whatever she tells them to. It's strange how a moment ago he was bothered by that, and now he seems resigned to it, but it's not something he's consciously thinking about at the moment.]

Are you sure?

[ Mikuru stares at him awkwardly, her eyes wide in confusion. She doesn't know what to think or what to say, honestly. But she knows that she shouldn't have a relationship with anyone that isn't from her time. Unless that was all a lie... ]

Um, Suzumiya-san sent me a message earlier.

I'm sure.

Ah, I suppose it's time for us to report for duty, then?

[He sounded resigned to the notion, but not resentful. This was just the way life around Haruhi worked, after all.]

[ Mikuru will attempt to cheer him on.. slightly, anyway. She'll close her hands into tight fists as she speaks (albeit a bit loudly), trying to be enthusiastic as she speaks. ]

Don't worry, Kyon-kun! I'm sure... I'm sure that Suzumiya-san will plan something good!

[ ... Except that's probably not going to happen, now is it? ]

[There's a moment of inauidble grumbling where Kyon looks down and scuffs a shoe against the pavement, before looking back up with a forced laugh and a smile.]

Ah, I'm sure you're right! ... We'd better be sure to avoid any penalties for being late, then.

[ Mikuru nods, closing her hands into tight fists, her eyes gleaming with determination. ]

Mm. I'm sure Suzumiya-san won't penalize us if we get there early!

Ah, Asahina-san.

[In true Koizumi fashion, he is smiling inscrutably - though if you know Koizumi well, you might be able to detect the slightest hint of surprise. By his voice, though, he is very genuinely happy.]

You finally made it. I had worried - well, I'd been unsure I would ever see you again. Perhaps there is hope for the old world yet.

[ Unfortunately, Mikuru doesn't know Koizumi as well as Kyon, since, well, they don't speak quite that often. So she can't really tell either way, really. ]

Considering everything, it would probably be a good idea for you to lock this conversation as well, from Haruhi in particular.

[He pauses, giving her time to do so, then tilts his head a bit to the side. His voice is cheerful as he enumerates the severity of their situation.]

Haruhi and I appeared here - separately - a little less than nine months ago. Kyon says he was here several months before that. We are trapped on the island of New Moore, cut off from the rest of the world by some sort of seemingly impenetrable force field.

Psychics, aliens, and time travelers are all relatively common, though none from the organizations we are familiar with. The Organization is not here, and we've seen no evidence of either the Integrated Data Sentient Entity or your particular brand of time travelers. [A slight pause.] Nagato-san has yet to make an appearance.

Many appear here just as we have done, verifiably from universes different from our own. Every couple weeks there is some extreme event that defies explanation - and usually at least a half-dozen laws of physics as well. Sometimes exciting, sometimes terrifying, sometimes harmless, these events seem to have no pattern, no rhyme or reason, and everything usually resets to normal after a few days.

Many believe that someone is in charge of the island - though we never see such a person - pulling the strings and somehow stealing us from our home universes. [He gives a kind of half shrug.] I believe the answer is much simpler, though nobody here besides you, me, and Kyon have the means to know that.

Might I ask, when are you coming from? Some of us were taken from different points in our own timelines.

[ Mikuru tilts her head to the side before she fumbles with the phone, attempting to find a way to lock the conversation from anybody who's listening. Though it does take her several minutes. ]

Is this... Suzumiya-san's doing?

[ Obviously a legitimate question, though she doesn't remember having been told about something on this large of a scale from her bosses. Then again, nobody from her time ever tells her anything so major... ]

Um, it was April...

[He nods his head.]

That is what I believe, at least. It would appear she got bored of the old world and created a new, more interesting one.

Kyon disagrees with me, though.

But... why?

[ Or rather, that doesn't make any sense, considering the fact that the changing of the world is most definitely not a predetermined fact. ]

I'm afraid I cannot say.

If you're confused about it from a temporal perspective, however, I may be able to provide some explanation. Haruhi's creation of a different universe doesn't fit into the old timeline of events - forgive me if I choose an overly simplistic model. According to your future's history, she never did such a thing - but I believe that doing so would be outside your timeline's jurisdiction.

[He uses his hands quite emphatically during his explanations.]

By creating a different universe, one where we are supposedly 'fictional', she may created time itself anew. Whatever she does here may not have happened in our old perspective of time, because this one is completely different. Completely separate. It may even work differently - I know there are more time travelers here, and the rules they know are very different than the ones you are familiar with.

Then there is the other possibility. If our previous world still does exist - and your arrival gives me a little more hope that it does, though nothing is assured because you were pulled from a different point in time - then it is entirely possibly that there was no record of Haruhi remaking the world because from their perspective she did not. Perhaps we are with Haruhi in this world and with her in the old one as well. We'd never know, and our selves in the previous universe would never know anything had happened.

[He gives a bit of a shrug.] Those are my theories, anyway. Idle speculation at best, I'm afraid - we may never know the truth of the matter.

[ Mikuru nods several times as she listens to his explanation intently trying to comprehend the situation. She then bites her lower lip, worried. If Koizumi doesn't know, that's just bad news. Maybe Kyon can shed more light to the matter.

[ Her voice is small as she speaks, and even a little shaky at first, but she soon calms herself down in order to speak with a little more serious tone. Though not by much. ]

If Suzumiya-san caused this, then I think it's entirely possible that the timeline was cut in two.

[ After all, it is not something new from her to begin with. ]

B- but! It is also possible that Suzumiya-san... that she didn't cause this. That is what I think.

If Suzumiya-san didn't cause this, what do you think might have happened, then?

T-... that's classified.

[ And even if she truly didn't know, she would be unable to say anything about it, especially since it's important to keep certain information a secret. ]

If we truly are in another reality, we are the only ones left from our respective Organizations. As such, in these new and certainly unforeseen and trying circumstances, we may have call to revise our protocols. Those created by our superiors in the old reality may not necessarily apply here.

[A shrug.] Simply something to think about. [Basically his way of saying that everything is weird and she is the only one who needs to decide what's classified and what isn't anymore. After all, they are both currently the highest ranking members of their Organizations.]

[ ... except for the fact that even if she is the only member of her group, she still has the hypnosis effect kept in place. ]

You think so...

As the only member of the Agency here, and given the strange events that routinely occur, I have not always been able to follow the procedures set down for me. Sometimes, they prove impossible. Other times, merely impractical. Still others, I have disagreed with what the procedures dictate, and decided to amend them.

The creation of an entirely new reality dictates many changes. We have an entirely different context to work within. And we have no-one else to turn to in the wake of these changes.

[ And just on cue, the shorter girl will wail slightly, bowing several times because being late is a bad thing, but being last is even worse. She's... not the last one here, is she? ]
