I've developed a guilty pleasure for watching these competitive "reality shows" on television.

I'm not sure why they call them that. It's an arbitrary name, when you think about it. "Reality shows" hardly capture reality.

The competition aspect of them is often rather pointless as well. What does eating a pound of brains prove, other than that the contestant has no gag reflex? Why not test your mettle at an actual survival skill?

( He falls silent, but not because he's thinking. He's already aware of the situation. )

Given the island setting, I'd say I'm in one such "reality show" now.

But my strength feels considerably limited, so being voted off the island seems like my best option...

( Shatterstar heaves a sigh, having finally resigned himself to acceptance. )

... or it would be, if that offer were on the table. I know enough about captivity to know this is a different kind of game.

Oh Christopher! I'm so sorry, I didn't realize I had caused you so much hurt. You should tell me these things sooner, you know? That's your problem. You always keep everything inside and you never let anyone help you. Really, I had no idea! I shouldn't have brushed you off like that, I'm sorry. I just, I really thought you were fine at the time!

I wonder if Millie of Lowood House is this sarcastic. I do hope she shows up on this island so I can find out.

Millie is a smart, independent young woman who does not stand for what I understand we now refer to as "BS".

Also don't joke about Millie showing up here. I don't think my heart could handle the excitement, and some of us don't have multiple lives laying about.

I'm sure the two of you would be best of friends. You could talk endlessly of how wonderful it is to write lines. Maybe that Peter Jenkins fellow Grant is so enamoured of would show up as well. The two of them would certainly have the most interesting stories.

Oh! I've read a few of the Peter Jenkins books, he seems a bit dreamy. Are you sure you're prepared to compete with him?

I do wish Conrad were here. I wonder why he didn't show up with the influx.

Peter Jenkins is certainly not dreamy and his so-called adventures are boring. Oh, the Headmaster has a secret, how shocking. At least the other Millie seems to get in trouble every once in a while.

No one would like Peter better than me! You may think that now, but then you'd meet him and instantly realize that I'm far more exciting and dashingly handsome.
