Oh for the love of- Shit. All right. I still haven't figured out all the ways this thing works. I mean, a phone is one thing, but this is a bit more complicated than it needs to be.
[There's a heavy pause, and a sigh. When he speaks again, his voice is slightly strained.]
Is there a way to figure out who all's here on this island? I probably should have just asked at the hospital, I just... wanted to see if there was anyone I might know.

[A beat.]
But I work at the police station, maybe I can help you. I'm Julie.

As for people you might know, both Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler are present.

[Though he sounds unsteady at first, the relief and happiness in his voice becomes almost palpable.] Wait. Really? Sherlock's here? Oh, thank God.
Sorry, I know you know me, but I haven't asked for your name yet, have I? That seems a bit rude.

[ because normally he'd text (or just show up), but under the circumstances, he's aware that he might need to provide a little more proof of his identity. he wonders if he'd have behaved differently only a couple of years ago, if this is such a drastic change that it will cause John to be concerned.
(but really, he needs the time to rein himself back in.) ]

But I do also know where new arrivals are turned out into the streets.

How long have you been here? I mean, where I came from, you weren't missing, you were there, last thing I remember.

Look what the cat dragged in.

Right. Hello, Irene. Good to... know you're here, I suppose. [ He did try to at least not sound openly hostile. Just... a litte grumpy. ]

How very honest of you, Doctor Watson. ( she can take up this role very well, the one of an enemy. ) You did ask for anyone you might know; perhaps you ought to have been specific.

It's just that things are a bit more recent for me, you... Doing the things you did that I wasn't so fond of, involving my best friend. You know, drugging him, tricking him, faking your death, that sort of thing. So while I'm very grateful that you've presumably helped him while I was gone, though I don't even know how long that was, I don't really have any reasons to call you a friend.

( not strictly the truth. she had a choice. she made it by allowing him in to her flat and refusing to allow him to leave. she's always been fond of playing the villain, however.
she, of course, has no idea that sherlock considers her a friend anyway. he might tell john that but he certainly hadn't shared those sentiments with her. and john (this john), had no idea of her eventual downfall at his hands; he hadn't been privy to that information. naturally he would be less than fond of her. )
And your opinion on my very real death?
no subject
[ Another long pause. ]
And. Well you're obviously not dead, are you? Not that I'm really that surprised.

( like living in her flat, eating her food (when she managed to coax him to), doing whatever strange experiments he wanted in her kitchen, etc. )
I won't bore you with the details. But don't assume that because I'm here, I'm not dead. That's not quite how this place works.
