[the feed clicks on and, for a second, it's so quiet it sounds like it might be an accidental recording - then amy's distinct scottish brogue comes hissing in from the silence in a peevish whisper.]

Rory where are you!! You've been gone for almost an hour! If I'd known they were going to make you weave the diapers yourself I would've--

[the waspish tirade comes to an abrupt halt as she is interrupted by a whimpering, and then the full-blown wailing of a fussy infant. her voice, sliding back into its normal pitch, is all melting concern:]

Shhhhhh, sshhhh Melody... I wasn't really shouting at him, nobody's fighting! Shhhhh, sweetheart... how about a smile for your big old milk-thing, yeah? .... Please?

[baby mels doesn't seem to be biting. the tiredness in amy's voice seems to bleed through the cheer.]

Come on..... pleeeeease be quiet? Everything's all right, daddy will be home soon... Hopefully with a nice, biiiig bottle of valium....

Sorry, sorry, there were a lot of people doing some last minute shopping. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone on the island'd decided to go today.

[He's kind of frantically looking around, alternating between trying to decide where to put the bags and trying to see Melody.]

[Relax!! She's still there. Amy has her strapped to her chest in a makeshift papoose made out of one of Rory's old shirts. She seems to be settling down (FINALLY), so in lieu of a grand "welcome home", Amy holds a finger to her lips as she gently bounces the baby into sleep. She greets him with a whisper and some more verbal abuse:]

Oh really? Where did you go, the Tescos in Narnia?

[Rory breathes easier, and his whole body relaxes. Unfortunately, this means the bags are slipping out of his arms, and he juggles with them for a minute. He answers in the same tone of voice.]
