WHO: John & the Master
WHEN: the day after the Master was taken into custody
WHERE: AWW YEE JAIL YEE
It's probably normal to feel betrayed, John tells himself. The thought keeps him going through school that day, biding time until he can shoulder his backpack and say goodbye to his friends and walk to where they've been keeping Thomas.
Walk, not fly. The ground is important; it keeps him from shaking so hard that he blows away with the wind.
The hardest part about this whole ordeal is the slow, sinking acceptance that everyone has been right about Thomas all along. From the moment John knelt in front of his television and talked to the Master's shadow, he knew he had to grit his teeth and face the truth. There's still that sliver of hope, though, and John keeps a fierce hold on it. Doing bad things doesn't necessarily make you a bad person.
Officer Shepard takes his backpack and searches him, reminds him of the rules. Remember to stay away from the glass. The heir of breath has to make a conscious effort to force air into his lungs as he's led into the visiting room. There's a dead silence when Shepard shuts the door behind him. John tries to wave but finds his fists balled at his sides, useless and immobile with tension.
"Hi," he finally manages. It's kind of lame, but really, where else is there to start? John looks his roommate over before meeting his gaze. "I am really glad you aren't hurt."
