[Kate looks down at her, wondering if it's even healthy for Sheska to eat an M&M now that it was basically half her body weight.]

Everyone on the island thinks they are cartoon superheroes, the phone won't stop ringing, my roommate is a mouse and my partner won't stop saying the word kero after every single sentence. I have a mountain of paperwork up to my eyeballs and a job to get done and this is making it impossible.

So tell me, Sheska, how is this not as bad as I think it is?

Um, think of how many criminals are going to be caught? It looks like a lot of people are more civic-minded right now, and you -- er, they have enhanced abilities to help deal with any criminals they come across.

How many times do I need to tell you, I don't have super powers? And yes, maybe, but the last thing we need after last month is a bunch of delusional vigilantes thinking they're above the system. That doesn't work out for anyone.

[Gently...] You're already working with the system. Would it be such a hardship to go out on the streets instead of sitting at my desk? After all, I know Chief Shepard would rather have someone he trusts out there rather than all the, ah, vigilantes on their own. I don't remember seeing Officer Beifong in today, and she always checks in before going on patrol.

Sheska, I'd rather be out on the beat right now but I don't see anyone else jumping to take the dispatcher position and if we get any calls...

[She pauses.] I. Don't. Have. Powers. I'm just a normal, run of mill human, like always.

[She flattens her ears back under the rebuke, but soldiers on.] Well, um, have you asked Chief Shepard if someone from the, er, non-fictional staff would be able to man the phones?

Yes. Like always. These aren't powers you grow into... they're ones you've always had. That's what makes them unique.

[Moving her ears like that makes Kate want to pat her head appreciatively, but she resists. She might be a cute mouse but she is still her roommate.]

The only power I have is my ability to hold my caffeine. Speaking of which, I really need some more.

[She stands up and grabs her coffee cup, pausing for a second.] And fine, I'll talk to Shepard. You're probably right about this job being better suited for a non-fictional. But that is the only thing you are right about.
