[Kate is sitting at Sheska's desk at the precinct. Yes, she serving as the temporary dispatcher/secretary while the current one is, you know, a mouse.]

You know what? You all have officially lost it.

[She pops a M&M in her mouth. Judgmentally.]

[Probably not if she were really a mouse, but who ever heard of a mouse with wings? And this is her third one, so if it was going to have an effect, it probably would have happened before now, right? ...Right?]

Um, think of how many criminals are going to be caught? It looks like a lot of people are more civic-minded right now, and you -- er, they have enhanced abilities to help deal with any criminals they come across.

[Sheska-mouse sighs and swishes her tail.]

You said that before... I can't believe you don't believe what you've seen for yourself! It's part of what makes you, well, you. And if you were out there, then you would be working with the system, not outside it, right? It's a good thing!

There are plenty of women who find running in heels to be virtually impossible, you know. The "always" is part of what makes you so special!

[Gently...] You're already working with the system. Would it be such a hardship to go out on the streets instead of sitting at my desk? After all, I know Chief Shepard would rather have someone he trusts out there rather than all the, ah, vigilantes on their own. I don't remember seeing Officer Beifong in today, and she always checks in before going on patrol.

[She flattens her ears back under the rebuke, but soldiers on.] Well, um, have you asked Chief Shepard if someone from the, er, non-fictional staff would be able to man the phones?

Yes. Like always. These aren't powers you grow into... they're ones you've always had. That's what makes them unique.
