[i'm in too deep there's no way out]
Who: Shinji, and his rescue party - Kaworu, Souji, Koizumi, Stephanie Brown & Aisling, featuring Homura and Tim Drake.
What: Attempting to rescue Shinji from his own issues. Also, from the dungeon.
When: Sometime before the night of June 22th.
Where: TV world
Why: Because Shinji is less a person and more a mountain of issues with a personality and it would be nice if he could work on some of them!!
Note: I shamelessly stole this format from Vriska's rescue log because it is great. So yeah, below you will find a quick summary of the dungeon, of Shinji's shadow, of the confrontation with it, and of the way team members fight/are affected. NOT A LOT OF DETAIL ABOUT DAMAGES/SOME PPL ARE MISSING but that can/will prob be edited later! Also very long, so... you can skip if you want.
Shinji’s dungeon basically resembles NERV- for those who are unfamiliar with it, it looks like a military institution: there are no recognizable characteristics, and it could easily be passed by as a boring, run of the mill office building. Each level is similarly plain, with metallic white walls without characteristics or signs. The only difference is that while the lights in the first floor are super bright, there is less light the more floors you go up, until you get to the last one, where they are flickering, making it hard to see. The room where Shinji and Shadow!Shinji are is initially filled with an orange liquid, but as long as the party doesn’t panic, they will be able to breathe and it will filter out soon.
Once the water filters out, the party will be able to see both Shinji and his Shadow, standing face to face, ready for the expected confrontation. The shadow will say that he’s disappointed they made it, since he would have been happier if them and everybody else would just die and leave him alone. Upset, Shinji yells at him to stop saying stuff like that, but his shadow just laughs. “But isn’t it true? I would be so much happier if I didn’t have to deal with all these people! Why do I always have to risk my life for others? Why can’t they just leave me alone?”. Shinji yells at it to shut up again, that all that stuff just isn’t true, he doesn’t want anyone to get hurt! But his shadow grins and laughs again: “I don’t care about anyone but myself! And that’s the best way to live, isn’t it? Other people are just such a burden”. This is, of course, the point where Shinji yells “You’re not me!” and shit gets real.
Shinji’s shadow basically has two parts. For those familiar with evangelion, his shadow has an armor that looks similar to his Unit 01, except with the colours of his plugsuit instead (white and blue), and without any facial characteristics: his “mask” is box-like and plain, making you wonder where he could be talking from. He is on all fours, more like an animal than a person. Aside from some magic-based attacks which will make the party feel exhausted, it also has some basic physical attacks. Once his armour cracks, there is a second part to the shadow. Inside, there is a human-like body, but it's all bandaged up and bloody, much like Shinji's eva after it went berserk - his face does show characteristics this time, but all that can be seen is one eye, and some hair at the top. His hands have claws, breaking through the bandages, and he will use these to attack the group - as well as some electric attacks.
Kaworu’s contribution, as usual, is all defensive, but he’s very distraught, especially if/when he perceives any threat to the original Shinji, so he will not be nearly as effective as usual. Tim & Homura are limited to physical attacks, as always, & Tim will focus on distraction while Homura keeps her distance.
Aisling will be primarily in wolf form to help Koizumi track and to aid in attacking the Shadow. She does not have magical attacks, so she will be primarily using her fangs. She’s fast, and dodgy, and does small bursts of damage, so she won’t be as effective as she’d like - particularly when faced with the armored form. She’s made very uncomfortable by being surrounded by metal all the time, and the longer she stays in the dungeon the more tired and gaunt she becomes. Still, she will try to put herself between attacks and the intended victim. If people need to pass items, she will also serve as messenger. Immediately post the battle, she will resume girl form - tired and worn, and thinner than the girl who would have turned up if everyone stopped before the dungeon to rest or talk tactics.
Koizumi's initial contribution will be using his powers to attempt to track Shinji's mind in the Dark Hour. This is difficult, because he doesn't know Shinji very well (they kissed once, but that was about it), and because the Dark Hour is full of human thought and emotions, so the signals are all jumbled and confused. Once he finds the dungeon, with Aisling's help, he will stay toward the back during the talking part, letting Souji and Shinji's friends take over there. Once the fighting starts, however, he will immediately be front and center. He will be flying, encased in a glowing red sphere of energy with green lighting crackling all around it. He will swiftly circling the shadow, but he will also be almost exclusively on the offensive. His attacks will do some electricity damage, but most of it will be almighty damage - almost pure magic or energy. If necessary, he can do physical as well, but it's definitely not his preferred method. He may have to resort to physical, however, depending on how much he’s hit with the exhaust spells, as they will affect him heavily.

CONFRONTATION
[Shinji's voice sounds tired, but also much more confident than before, where he merely seemed like he was about to cry in frustration. He rubs his eyes with his arm - because he had been crying a little - and faces his shadow, trying to look determined]
I know... that you’re not lying. Not completely, at least. I’ve always... I’ve always thought that maybe, if I didn’t have to worry about other people...
[he trails off, looking away for a moment. He takes a deep breath]
I’ve been... really happy lately. This island is weird, and stuff just keeps happening, but I kinda like it. Kaworu-kun is here, [and here he makes a pointed effort not to look at him, because he knows if he does, he’ll lose his guts to keep saying this to his shadow. He does turn a little red, though] and I’ve made friends that I really like!
But every time I started feeling happy, I remembered that people were still fighting back home! Asuka and Ayanami-san are probably still fighting... if they haven’t died already. And Misato-san, I don’t even know if she’s eating properly, much less if she’s still... Even my dad, I...!
[Shinji has to pause for a second, but he seems more determined and in control]
But if I had the chance to go back... I didn’t know if I would. And I felt guilty, because everyone back home depended on me! I’m a selfish person, who would stay here and just continue being happy while everybody else is fighting and dying, and it made me angry, because I was always... whenever they needed me, I always fought! And I hated feeling like this, and I thought... [takes a deep breath] I thought that if I didn’t have to worry about other people, I wouldn’t have to do dangerous things anymore.
[he smiles, a bit ruefully]
I still don’t know if I would go back. The truth is, I’m a big coward. I keep telling myself that I can’t run away, but all I do is run away, and staying in the island is... [he shakes his head, and for the first time, he looks confident and sure of himself] But I can’t ignore everybody. I care about them, and I don’t want them to get hurt. And I guess if I ever get the chance to go back, I’d have to make a choice then. But I’m happy, and I can’t feel guilty because of that!
[finally Shinji is finished talking, a little out of breath, but with a tiny, relaxed smile. His Shadow smiles back at him, and fades away.
YES, WE CAN ALL GO HOME NOW]
CONFRONTATION
[Immediately in Shinji's personal space.]
CONFRONTATION
and his time in the dungeon
and this final battle...
Shinji still jumps a little to suddenly have Kaworu RIGHT THERE]
Ah, thank you!
CONFRONTATION
And an orange, for your blood sugar.
And...
...Shinji-kun, if you're tired, it's all right if you lean on me.
Or if you are upset, you may yell at me, but I believe that reaction is less common.
CONFRONTATION
I'm not- I don't want to yell at you.
The water sounds nice, though.
[also leans on him a little]
CONFRONTATION
Things will be better, now.
CONFRONTATION
I hope so...
[the arm on his side feels nice. tiredly, he rests his forehead on kaworu's shoulders, speaking onto his neck]
Kaworu-kun?
Re: CONFRONTATION
[They're close. That's good. He's seen how Shadows affected others, and he worried that they wouldn't be close afterward.]
CONFRONTATION
but he's not ready to hear those answers yet]
Do you think... we'll go back home one day?
Re: CONFRONTATION
Perhaps the people dearest to us will come here, instead.
Re: CONFRONTATION
I'd like that a lot...
[tiredly, one of his hands clings to Kaworu's shirt a little]
I need to tell you something.
Re: CONFRONTATION
[His free hand come up to curl over Shinji's. He would like to encourage this kind of closeness.]
Re: CONFRONTATION
the way kaworu's hand feels so nice on his is also helping]
I've been happy in this island, but you are what's made me happiest out of everything else. This whole thing happened because I was feeling guilty, but I don't... I don't wanna stop feeling happy.
[enjoy this brief moment of honesty, kaworu, as it is not likely to happen again any time soon]
Re: CONFRONTATION
I'll do my best to keep making you happy. That's the most important goal I have.
[Pleased, but also solemn.]
Re: CONFRONTATION
[having finished what he had to say, it seems like whatever energy shinji had left has decided to leave his body. so he makes himself comfortable, nuzzling against kaworu's neck and closing his eyes just to rest them for a few seconds, really]
I'm really glad...
Re: CONFRONTATION
[And Kaworu will levitate you home.]
