Wrong world, wrong people. The universe went backwards and to the side. Stepped of a ship and into somewhere new.

This isn't where I belong.

Islands. Lost in places they'd never been. Lost even though some of them know where they are now. You learn to be found.

She's a good ship. Flies true through the black. Firefly class transport ship.

River. I'm called River. Or I was. Maybe i"m something different here. The universe is all wrong and I don't know where I fit in anymore.

The universe isn't wrong - it's exactly what and where it's supposed to be. We're the ones who are in the wrong place!

Wrong for me. Wrong for where I'm supposed to be. [She frowns.] It's not wrong for itself, for the people who belong here but not for some. For some it's the wrong place. They're only stories, when in other places they're more than that.

[Suddenly solemn.] Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to get back to all our right places, or not on purpose, at least.

[Aaand back to excited.] What was your world like?

I know. [She looks passive, quiet and sad.

Worlds. Planets. A whole universe. It was strange and terrifying and beautiful.

[Then, more consciously -] 'Strange and terrifying and beautiful' does keep things interesting, though!

Interesting. [She says the word like she's testing it on her tongue, trying to decide if she likes the feel of it.] Rather it be dull, remember what it's like to play normal and be a girl than be interesting.

I do try and remember what it's like to be a boy, though, even if I haven't really been one for a millennium.

[She smiles, looking more excited than she had been this entire time.] Yes!

[A very warm and very wide smile takes over his face.] Well, okay then!

Are there different skies? I guess there must be.

Different skies through different worlds, universes. The starts are always different depending on where you are.

I'm nowhere I know.

Me too... Everything is so different here. It's big, but... in a different way than I'm used to. It's confusing and a little bit scary.

[littlesoul]

Don't think it's scary, just different. Odd. The world is young.

[She looks sozzled for a moment, then smiles a little.] It's an Earth That Was but not.

But... not? What's Earth That Was?

It was...It's Earth. Earth when it could still sustain us. It can't keep gong though, not forever. Find new places and keep going, keep living.

Oh. Your home made you leave? That's very...

It's sad, isn't it? Is that right?

[littlesoul]

Wasn't made, had to. There was nothing left for us back then, so we made homes everywhere else. We took up a whole universe making our homes.

Golly. That's still not good.

So then.. where is your home?

And are truth or correctness states a sky is capable of possessing?

[littlesoul]

Not within the sky itself but of my perception of it can be decided as correct. It s not the correct sky. This is an old sky, it's an old world. Not the ones I've seen.

[She frowns.] Haven't been clear for a long time. No one expects it anymore.

Splintered pieces that make up a whole. Broken glass that had one been a mirror.

That was almost a haiku.

[She considers herself for a moment, careful to select the right words, even thought they feel like they gt tangled and tied up in her throat.] Fell and landed here. Jumped from a catwalk and wound up here instead. Look up and the sky is wrong, bet the stars are wrong too.

It's wrong. Everything's wrong. The whole universe is twisted and not what it was.
