So, I think all the commotion has finally died down. Are there any Avengers left in the city? Things were so busy I think I only caught one of the Thors, Tony, and Bruce when they got here.

There are some people from a different version of my home world that pop up here sometimes. Either I don't exist there or they haven't met me yet because they don't know who I am.

A few here and there, yeah. It's not that big of a deal. I work with alternate timelines all the time, so I understand why they don't know me.

Thor's great, and I'm happy he's here, but two would create some serious electrical interference all over the island.

Depending on what was going on, that could be useful, but I do prefer to have functioning electronics.

Are you from the Chitauri invasion world everyone else seems to be coming from?

Yes. Or at least, that's the last thing I remember.

What do you mean by 'everyone else'?

There are a few other members of the main Avengers team that have come through here, and you guys all seems to be from the same timeline.

But as far as who is here now - I've counted Barton, Phil Coulson and myself. And Loki.

Yeah, when I got here there was Tony, Bruce, Steve, Clint, and you. They've all left by now. The Clint that's here came back a few months ago.

They've all gone.. where? Left for where? I was under the impression we were trapped here.

We don't know. People get "released" on occasion. We don't know if that means they leave the island or if they go home.

[ bluntly, as she accepts the notecard, flipping it over and memorizing the other side before tearing it up until the code is no longer readable. ]

You've been busy to have all this set up.

No, how would they come back if they were killed? And what's the point of keeping us here just to kill us later?

[It's a nice place, as far as a repurposed warehouse goes. A large training arena takes up the floor, while a lofted lounge area hangs above the far end of the arena]

I've had help. The Young Avengers were a big help when it was just Coulson and me.

A scientist would be better to talk to about that. Wormholes, spaces through time. But you may be right.

[ Natasha isn't wasting any time in memorizing the layout as well as possible ins and outs without being seen; not necessarily for spying, but for later use if something were to happen. ]

.. The 'Young' Avengers?

Yeah, Young Avengers. They're a group in my world that started out a few years ago as a bunch of teenage Avengers knock-offs, but they've really grown into themselves.

These are teenagers? Going out to fight?

[ if she sounds surprised, she buries it. instead she seems almost incredulous. ]

Yeah, you understand our apprehensions when they first popped up. They were only 16 at the time. We tried to get them to just go back to their normal lives, but they wouldn't listen. Then Cassie...Cassie Lang fell during a battle and they seemingly disbanded. I hadn't heard anything from them until I got here.

Children shouldn't be involved in that life.

[ firmly. ]

You try telling them that. We forcibly disbanded them twice before they finally seemed to knock it off. Then I come here only to find out that they've been operating back home for a few months already.

[She sounds exasperated.]

I do what I can to keep them out of the worst of it, but it's better that we work with them so at least we can keep an eye on them.

Ship them to Siberia for a few months. Separately.

I don't see why they'd want to be Avengers to begin with.

That really wouldn't work. They may be kids, but they're powerful in more ways than one.

Sometimes I don't either, but I know we tried being the bad guys who broke them up before and it didn't work. It really didn't work. I can't do that to those kids again.
