This place grows more dangerous by the night, and going out drinking is a great way to make yourself stupidly vulnerable. Keep your wits about you, already. It shouldn't be as hard as you're all making it out to be.

I'm getting really sick of getting irritated every time I hear your voice.

It's all right. I had a similar reaction when you responded. I'm trying to stay out of your way, but there are some things I need to do. And you should be aware of the pack of wolves staking out territory in the northwest corner of the city. If I get too close, they'll sense me and descend all at once. You and yours might be able to sneak in and break it up some before they turn that whole sector.

I'll keep an eye on them. We naturally gather in packs, so I want to make sure they're actually turning people before I jump in.

[There's a short pause and she sighs, almost a hiss between her teeth, and she tries to lose the edge in her voice.]

Sorry. What I've been hearing is that they've been purposefully turning their family members and neighbors to try and form a monster pack. If they try to take over the city, with that number of them they might be able to do it. There would certainly be collateral damage.

[Lin, are you talking about to property or people? And since when are people "collateral damage"?]

We'll look into it. It's a bit hard running my normal surveillance while I can't fly.

[A pause. She notices the use of terms as well.]

Are you counting the wolf deaths in that collateral damage?

[A pause of her own. She had forgotten that the wolf would take Carol's powers of flight.]

No one deserves that. I don't... want them dead. [Not entirely.] But they shouldn't be endangering the rest.
