An alternate reality? Well, it's not the strangest thing I've heard. If we can create technology that enables the user to enter the mind, it does not take any great stretch of imagination to believe that someone has developed the technology to enter other worlds. I may not agree with them on the... fictional nature of my existence, but that is irrelevant at this time. What matters is that I have been brought here, to New Moore, and with no apparent hope of returning to Whispering Rock.

There must be a reason. There is always a reason. I could not gather any information from the minds of these scientists, aside from the fact that they hold fast to their beliefs that we are all fictional. They are severely deluded. Unlike liars who set out with the intention to deceive, those who suffer from delusions genuinely believe the deception themselves. In fact, they believe in it so strongly, it could make a sane person question their own perspective. It is an extremely dangerous state of mind.

But no matter. There is much to learn about this place. I must take care to control my curiosity about these scientists until I know more about the cage in which we have been placed. As interesting a subject as alternate realities may be, I have no particular desire to stay.

Besides, they could at least have given me a lab.

So you really do think that we might be in another world entirely?

I make no guarantees, but I do believe it is possible. For now, it is just a theory. What I've seen of this island does not seem so foreign that an alternate universe is the only solution; in fact, it seems ordinary enough that it could exist in the world I know.

Still, that is not to say that my world is the only one that can be considered "ordinary." I have only begun to entertain the idea of alternate realities; I won't know if I'm onto something until I know more.

Well, in the universe I'm from there are a great number of alternate realities, but none that I know of follow rules that would allow some of the things I've seen here.

Reality itself seems much more wibbly here than it ought to be. Every couple of weeks, something very strange happens - people shift places in their own timelines, switch bodies, or become inundated with cats. What's more, every day at midnight, for exactly one hour, time literally stops. It's all been very mysterious so far - usually I'd have worked things out by now, but I'm as perplexed as ever!

Is that right? Well, you seem to know quite a lot about this, mister...?

A scientist? Perhaps. But not in the same vein as the scientists that brought us here.

I don't.

I study the mind: its capabilities, its limits, its potential. But things are different here, and I don't have anything I would need to continue to my studies. A lab may be the least of my concerns.

I don't presume to understand your studies, but I'm aware the police station has been looking for someone with experience regarding criminal psychology or forensics. Leaving a bulk of that work officers and individual investigators is hardly the ideal method.

Should you be interested, I believe they would be happy to supply someone in either of those positions a basic laboratory.

A police station? I can't say I'm an expert in either of those fields, but I believe I can still be of some use to you. And a lab is a lab...
