[He needed about five hours to figure out how to work this thing at all. So many buttons, no scroll or quill, damn it, those parrots were much easier to use. For someone whose primary form of long-distance communication has been owls so far, at least.
Sirius meant to write or, at the most, speak, but now he's turned on video and he's already thinking it's nothing short of a miracle he's managed that. Not the first time he's questioning the Hogwarts education system. He didn't even know muggles had such technology! (Granted, they hadn't, actually, back from the time period he came from.)]
Hello.
[After the pirate thing and a few days in this weird place, the obvious prison signs are starting to vanish. His skin has some color, his voice doesn't sound as...unused anymore and he's almost used to interacting with people again. Just when the night starts and when the nightmares come, then it's all back in Azkaban, without hope, without anything but regret and the thought of revenge.]
I'm Sirius Black. Not sure what to make of people telling me I'm fictional. To me, this place doesn't feel real.
Anyone know a good spot to get a drink around here?

Never gets boring, really? I mean, the people are great, but there are only world-changing or weird, unexplainable phenomena once or twice a month. Except for then, it's usually pretty boring. Especially because everything always goes back to normal after the event! And more often than not, even that isn't the good kind of interesting.
Then again, maybe my standards for boring aren't exactly standard...

[He really can't think about his godson's disappointments right now, not without a serious mood-swing that he doesn't want to succumb some stranger to, so he pushes it away as best he could.]
I've got really low standards right now, anything's better than where I come from. That does sound interesting though. Explains the pirates, I s'pose?

Ah yes, the pirates. Not a very enjoyable experience for me. It's not nice to wake up and realize you'd lost all sense of your morality for a week there. [He wasn't going to go into how he hadn't actually lost all morality, it had just been twisted and perverted enough he could hardly recognize it. Problem was, it was based of some interpretation of his history, one where he was on Earth, and just human - and he could totally see it happening, had his life gone a different way.
The fact that he'd killed a woman - simply for the fact that she lived in a society with slavery without doing anything about it - didn't help either. But it was best not to go down that road again - he'd just spiral back into depression and bring Sirius down with him.
Luckily, the fact that it's really Sirius Black he's talking to is exciting enough for him to ignore the experience for now.]

I liked the pirates. But I didn't have much sense to lose and, well, might have actually made it easier to get used to some things.
[Like sunlight. And they could be depressed together! Sirius is manic-depressive even on his good days, anyway.]
