back log: kate & loki
who: Kate & Loki
where: outside the prying reach of the cameras, close to the forest.
when: backlog!! around the time this occurred.
[it was some time in the morning before school. the sun was just beginning to come over the horizon, but the world around them was still asleep. Loki had sent a belated text message to her telling her to bring coffee. that's what Midgardians did, right? the bitter beverage was used to greet the world with cheer (though he didn't much feel like greeting much of this world with cheer this fine morning). he had once shared a cup with a friend, and it seemed like the proper occasion to do such.
unsurprisingly, he had been up all night. between his Evil-Self appearing, and his sudden need to rearrange his resources, it had been difficult to get any sleep. knowing that he was on the island was enough to keep the boy awake. even though he had exposed him over the TV, they were still stuck together. here.
he sits cross-legged in the grass under a tree, his hood hanging around his shoulders.]

He was better when he was a bird ...

If I shouldn't have, maybe you shouldn't have asked me to get you one.
[ a pause, as she admires how quickly he is drinking ]
You owe me three bucks, you know.
no subject
[and he tips it in his hand, considering it. for the time being he's elected to save the last few sips for later.]
You wished to speak to me, and now we can speak over coffee.

[ she stares down at her coffee cup--barely touched--and feels an overwhelming sense of dread. she's never actually had to have this conversation before. with the runaways, her group just kind of -- well, pounced, and then numbers were exchanged and it wasn't any big deal. but how do you tell someone you've been lying to them for months? ]
Your-- your scene with Loki, and some of our talks over the last week-- well, I've been thinking about our friendship. I know you've had some suspicions about me. About why I know so much about Asgard, and Midgardian superheroes.
[ she pauses, half-hoping loki will announce he already knows she's hawkeye, and half-hoping loki hasn't actually given it much thought. ]

There's many people who know of Asgard. It seems to be far more common in Midgard than one may think, especially to the small town of Broxton.
Though you do sound as if you have a well-kept secret that you'd like to share with me. From what I've read, that's what friends do, is it not? Have sleepovers and tell secrets?

[ she sighs, and bites her lip. THERE'S JUST NO EASY WAY TO DO THIS ]
Look, being Loki and all, maybe you've already noticed something is up, especially after Magneto's training session, but I'm really good with weapons. So good it earned me my alter ego. Captain America gave it to me.
I'm Hawkeye.
no subject
Oh, yes I know.
no subject
Well you don't have to be so matter-of-fact about it, geez.
...How long have you known? Not just that I was a superhero, but that I was Hawkeye?
no subject
[now it wasn't really the answer that she wanted, but it was more acceptable than giving the actual time frame of the closet-invasion.]
no subject
What the hell is casual about being inside my closet? That is personal, Loki! Invasion of my privacy! You have privacy on Asgard, don't you?!
no subject
he's even lifting his hands to wave them in front of him as if it would somehow show his innocence in the matter. which he wasn't, by the way. he was not innocent at all. well, at least he was fairly honest about his snooping in this situation.]
M'lady, my humblest apology.
no subject
How did you even get in my closet in the first place? We keep the apartment locked.
no subject
You don't always keep your window locked.
no subject
Jesus Christ, Loki, did you ever think we could maybe have a civilized conversation about this before you decided to [ her voice raises here ] CLIMB THROUGH MY WINDOW?!
no subject
Ah, I ... told you, didn't I? I promise it was innocent snooping! Perhaps I could offer my room in exchange?
no subject
Thank you for the offer, Loki, but that's pretty much the exact opposite of what I want. And just how is snooping innocent?
no subject
[he manages, very quickly!]

To confirm my suspicions. If I was aware of your abilities, I could better lay out well-meaning intentions against our adversary.
