[Well someone sounds tired and cranky. She's trying to keep a more neutral tone, but irritation keeps leaking through.]

If there are two constants on this island, they're the force field and the release list.

Elizabeth Bennet was released, but has since returned. Welcome, Miss Bennet. You've arrived at a rather tumultuous time for the island.

What I can tell you is that most of these people were released before everyone contracted a case of insanity and the powers to go with it. Most, but not all. What I can't tell you is why, or where they go. Normally I'd direct you to the Visitor's Center with more detailed questions, but that's not an option right now. You may have more luck at the hospital, but try not to pester the doctors too much. I don't have time to come get you for harassment.

I'll try and answer any questions you might have, but don't expect me to have all the answers.

You know you don't have to come and get anyone for pestering the doctors.

I do, actually. If we receive a complaint, we have to follow up on it.

Tiring? Yes. Doesn't change the fact that it's my duty to make sure things run as smoothly as possible in this city. That means hauling hoodlums out of the hospital so that the doctors and nurses can get back to their very important jobs taking care of the sick and injured, as well as keeping the streets safe, following up on anything that is reported... Any number of things.

Do you ever get a break?

Wouldn't it be kind of fun to just stop and see what happens?

Breaks and vacations are of little importance when compared to the greater needs of the city. I'm not interested in seeing the kind of chaos that would erupts when people are left to their own devices. People may not be gifted with unusual abilities right now, for the most part, but they don't need them to wreak havoc.

Oh, come on, you should give it a try. What's there for you to do if no one wreaks havoc?

[Short, disbelieving silence.]

You're wasting my time. I have evidence to compile. Aren't you supposed to be in class for at least half the day?

Does compiling evidence involve sitting cooped up and bored for hours on end? Uh, I'm the guy who's responsible for school being out--most of the time. I don't go to class.

Police procedure isn't something that needs to be public knowledge. And you do realize that if an officer catches you out of school, they have to drag you back in and you get a black mark on your school record?

You do realize I'm way too old to be in school? And even if I wasn't, one little black mark on a record that I don't care about isn't about to stop me.

Apparently the school system doesn't think so. Until they say otherwise, we'll keep enforcing it.

My curiosity has more than enough to occupy it. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt in thinking you're not going to put a projectile or explosive through any windows just to make sure I'm not there.

Well, at least now if the city winds up with a bunch of broken windows, you'll know why.

That is, if your lawyers can catch me. They might have hard time running as fast as the wind, with all that paperwork weighing them down.

[She doesn't say or type anything right away; however, Beifong's list hasn't fallen on deaf ears.
