Right, so. Let me see if I understand everything here.

My life, my entire being was nothing more than someone's cooked up, crack pipe idea. That who I am and everything else about me wasn't real, but now I'm real. Like the damned puppet from that story. Could never really stand it, even as a kid.

Heh, great. Really that's just fucking great. I don't have to worry about anything more, right? That's supposed to be the beauty in having this 'clean slate' here, ain't it?

You know what, don't answer that. Just leave me the hell alone.

Then aside from Doctor, what should I call you?

I dunno. Never had someone who insisted on not calling me The Doctor before.

[Pause.] Wait, that's a lie. Not in the last couple hundred years, anyway.

[If she had the video featured turned on right now she'd be giving him a dry stare.]

Do you really want to be crumpled together with the other doctors here? Those creepy guys who have no bloody idea what they're doing?

If they're not here to help, then they're not really doctors. [This from the man who, according to River and through example, gave meaning to the word 'doctor' in the first place.] And if they're giving 'doctor' a bad name here, then I'm going to work toward giving it a better one.

Who says they're not helping themselves? The term 'help' can be very subjective to a doctor or a group of them. [She sounds like she's talking from experience here.]

Not the way I mean it. If they're not here to help everyone who needs it or asks for it, no matter the circumstances - if they don't intend to do no harm and be a positive influence on peoples' lives - then they don't deserve to have that title. [He speaks genuinely and fiercely, obviously believing what he says, and his voice grows slightly darker with anger - though not at her.]

You're talking more of a hero than a doctor, Doctor. [Her voice is cold, but it's not directed at him but the experience she's had with being a lab rat of sorts. Being a clone and having your whole world turned upside down is starting to weigh down on her.]

I don't see that there should be a difference.

[A small pause, and then, more gently - though the anger is still there.] You've had bad experiences with people who call themselves 'doctor'. [It's not really a question.]

[There's a long pause before she collects her thoughts.] Could say that. But as hero and doctor go together in your mind. Doctor, scientist and God complex come into my mind.

[There's another pause, and when he speaks again it is slower, more subdued.] Science is neither good or bad. It depends entirely on the person using it. There are good scientists and there are bad scientists. And neither ever quite seems to overcome the other.

... I've been accused of having a God complex before. [Quietly -] Good old Rita. She asked me why it was always my job to save everyone.

I don't suppose I ever did give her a satisfactory answer. [Even if he's not too aware of it, the sorrow is clear in his voice.]

Lately I've been running into my share of the 'bad' side of that.

[She hears the sorrow in his voice and decides to stay quiet, trying hard to not let it affect her. She has to get her bearings and deal with things on her own.]

I'm sorry. [He sincerely is, and that is reflected in his voice.]

Whatever...[She's shutting him out, guard up and ready to move along to something else.]

Think you're helping enough as is. [She's not trying to be a smartass, but trying to be nice and genuine about it. It's hard for her to open up to new people, especially ones that seem to help her in the right way.]

[He's... not entirely sure how to take that. He hadn't really gotten the impression he was helping anything, at the moment.] I see. [Liar.]

Well, I'll probably see you around sometime anyway. [It's not a big island.]

[Knowing Sarah's luck they'll meet up sooner rather than later. Then again if she met Doc, doesn't that mean she'll be seeing the Doctor again?]

Bound to happen, unless there's another island connected to this one.
