Right, so. Let me see if I understand everything here.
My life, my entire being was nothing more than someone's cooked up, crack pipe idea. That who I am and everything else about me wasn't real, but now I'm real. Like the damned puppet from that story. Could never really stand it, even as a kid.
Heh, great. Really that's just fucking great. I don't have to worry about anything more, right? That's supposed to be the beauty in having this 'clean slate' here, ain't it?
You know what, don't answer that. Just leave me the hell alone.

It's the only place I knew of and I thought you were here longer than me. Didn't think there might be any diners here, least of all a pub.
no subject
Right. Though nobody's really warned me about the lack of amenities, so I suppose most people find someplace to hang out, eventually.
[He cants his head to one side, slightly bird-like.]
So. No sports, yes alcohol. I'll venture a guess to no books, yes people?
no subject
No to both. [Though she's been known to make exception, like in this case.]
Books are fine if you're bored out of your mind and people? Don't like to be around too many.
no subject
[Which might or might not be an invitation for her to listen to when he makes posts. If she's curious.]
[A tilted head, then he nods.]
So what do you find to like when there is no alcohol? I'm sure there are such times, sooner or later.
no subject
Haven't had much time to think about that. [Not when her life was turned upside, finding out she's a clone. Finding other clones, one of which is trying to kill them and who turns out to be her twin sister...and only thinking about it makes her open the bottle and pour herself a shot.]
I hung out with my brother, that's pretty much it.
no subject
Some people will always chatter. Others manage to get some useful information out.
[Then Dick tilts his head.]
Oh. I'm sorry if he's not here. I mean, I'm just finding out about brothers in this place, the closest I had, you know, as far as easily-explained family goes, was a cousin.
no subject
It's fine, better he be as far away from this place as possible. [Along with Kira along with Allison and Cosima who ...could be sisters? Ehh, no it's already complicated enough, no need to add family labels to them.]
no subject
[Pause.]
You really don't like this place.

No, the moment they take you and force you to be part of their experiments or some shit, that's when you have the right to dislike them entirely.
no subject
They didn't do it.
[She has a point. But he doesn't let go of his optimism and affection easily.]
no subject
Didn't think you'd be this much of a goodie-goodie, kid. [While he has a point, she doesn't like people. Never has and never will.]
I prefer to be on my own and not be involved in other people's shit.
no subject
[He's not apologizing for it very hard, to be honest. Though he cants his head to the side.]
Does that usually work? I'd probably go nuts on my own, but still. Does that work, for you?
no subject
[No, it doesn't work for her. Whenever she's gone off on her own she's gotten into loads of trouble. She usually has her brother with her for support. But then that list has grown to include Paul, Allison and Cosima...damnit, has she gone soft?]
It's been known to work for me. Wouldn't be sayin' unless it has. [Pauses, looking him over.]
What's your name?
no subject
[He's watching her with his head canted to one side. Over the last five years, he's seen a lot of people who're not okay, and she definitely is one of those. But there is no immediate danger that he can go fight, so - that only leaves room for
badjokes.][... in a moment.]
Yours?
no subject
Crap, it's gonna bug her for the rest of the night.
But back to the present.]
Funny, thought it would've been Billy or Arthur. [Or some other preppy name.]
It's Sarah Manning.
no subject
And, yeah, there've been people at school who suggested I switch to Rich or Rick or something. But it just... doesn't work.
[Not for him.]
no subject
Its not that, it just sounds familiar.
no subject
There's been at least one person who's said that they come from a place where I'm fictional. Maybe you read something.
no subject
Doubtful, don't like to read--!! [And all of a sudden its clear as crystal. Her eyes go wide as she looks at him.]
You're Robin. Batman and Robin. [Pause, because that's not the strangest thing that's ever happen to her. No, no, its something else.] Though it was only an American show.
no subject
[Then makes a small noise and thunks his forehead against the table.]
Well, this is weird.
no subject
No, not weird in the least. [This has gone from weird to hilarious to her.]
Why do you wear such bright colours? If you're fighting at night shouldn't you blend in?
no subject
[But then he sighs and looks down at the table.]
See, it's Batman who blends in the night. He's the heavy hitter.
I need to be the distraction. Capture the bad guys' attention, both from civilians and from Batman. And then hold my own until they can get taken down.
Of course, sometimes I manage it on my own, too, but...
[But Gotham tends to be a bit much. Even for Batman alone, many nights.]
no subject
That explains a lot. [Not just with what he does but how he's able to get her alcohol.]
