At first, I feared speaking publicly due to the nature of this device. I am not unfamiliar with Stark phones, even if I have rejected Stark's offers myself. He insisted time and again that the intemperate conditions of my lightning-based power would not destroy the phone, but I have proved that is incorrect here. I destroyed the first that way. And then others from the "click of a button," as they say.

But Loki offered me the Package of Walrus to protect it. It is now doing a suitable job.

I speak to you today to inform you that Loki, no matter how old or how young, is my concern. He is a citizen of Asgard, and while Asgard is not here, those responsibilities remain.

But I do not only wish to speak on heavy matters. I come to recommend that you do not try mead and ice cream in your bathing compartment in your mandated living spaces. It leaves the most foulest of aftertastes. And smells. Aye, I did not think I could ever turn down mead. I have learned otherwise.

[ only the slightest hesitation. ]

[ she's nothing if not punctual - and early. eight minutes later and she's waiting for him, hands crossed, leaning against a table inside headquarters. she'd wanted to get a jump start, just in case; he already had a size advantage, if it came down to fighting then she needed to know the area.

she didn't want to fight Thor. even if he wasn't the Thor she knew. ]

[Thor is the opposite of punctual. He's about ten minutes late when he finally shows up and takes her in. She is smaller than the Natasha that he knows, and he is ... different, too. He has a face that looks as if it never has held facial hair, in contrast to the one she knows best.]

[After a moment, he turns to pull a beer out of the fridge. What is professionalism, after all?]

[ She studied him for a moment as he studied her, it becoming clearer by the second that .. he was different. He might be Thor, but he's not the one she knew and that was enough to have her hackles up. You know, until he pulled out the beer. Some things don't change, regardless of timelines and multiverses. ]

You wanted to meet to brief me on some information.

Aye.

[It's stated softly before he cracks open the beer and takes a long sip. Long. In fact, he almost drinks it all.

Asgardians, honestly.]

Though Loki is a well-known foe to the Avengers in many places, he is still a citizen of Asgard. And he has fought my comrades and I many times, but that sole fact remains.

Can I get you another?

[ she's partly being sarcastic, and partly not as she crosses to the fridge and helps herself to a beer, and another for him, which she sets on the table. ]

Citizen of Asgard or not, I -- we can't ignore what he did on Earth. He'll have to answer for that.

There is a policy here. All previous crimes are not answered for. Will you act against that and become a criminal yourself?

[He does give her a pointed look. It was one of the things he came to understand quickly—or rather, was informed of, and he understood the reasoning.]

"Due process"? There isn't a court in the world equipped to try him, that's part of why the Avengers were brought together - to deal with Loki. We're the only ones who can. And if that's just me for right now, so be it!

You are young and prepped to make yourself the criminal in question. Do not act in haste.

[There's a crater near the barrier that says that Thor is not one who ... ever ... follows this advice. But he does. At times. He is capable of doubt, of cynicism. Even as a god, he has been shocked many times as a member of the Avengers.]

We will wait for him to act. He is Loki. He will act.

[ she'll shrug off the comment about her being 'young' - supposedly comparatively she was. but she also felt she was old enough to know what was worth being made a criminal for - and loki fell on that list, right now. ]

And how many more people will have to die until you're satisfied?

Do you think me so incompetent as to not stop him before he's made his move? Do not forget: we have a Loki, too.

[To him, that is important. Although spending time with the younger Loki has given him inside to the mind of the older Loki, he could not parse out that thinking so easily. He does need the extra help.]

You would use a child to fight him?

[ her eyes are cold. for all of his talk of nobility, for all of his 'of asgard' and how that made him better -- ]

You honestly think you're better than us, but you're just the same.

"Use a child"? Nay, I would not use him—it is what Loki would do himself. The boy was capable of saving Asgard with little help.

[But he does catch that she latches on to that and concludes that, for some reason, this is not a friendly conversation. It's a defensive one.]

I have fought Loki for many years. Loki destroyed Asgard and when he was reborn, he saved Asgard. But do not speak of comparisons. This is no comparison, Natasha, but a matter of consideration and understanding. Do not get caught up in such things. We fight for the same cause.

Even though we can be fairly certain he's plotting something.

And with the right assistance on our side, we will be able to act before he puts his plan into motion. Loki is always planning.

[Thor speaks with the knowledge of someone who has known Loki for many, many years; even in their youth, Loki was always plotting. Even the younger Loki is always plotting, in some way, so why would the older be any different?]

It is a risk, but it would be riskier for us to act first. We would lose the assistance and trust of the citizens. We would not want to be painted as the villains. Not all know of our strife. And he has been here before and caused no harm.

Does everyone else agree with this course of action?

[ in her general experience, she would rather take out those who were always plotting. dead men don't plot. she picks up her beer and takes a long drink. ]

If he didn't cause trouble before, it was because he didn't get the opportunity.

Has anybody acted?

[It's a good question in his mind. A simple one, but a good one.]

Or perhaps he was looking to gain trust first. Do not assume that people stood in his way.

What if he fools you?

[ the jut of her jaw is stubborn. ]

You can't think yourself above being deceived.

The issue is that he has received me many times. But if we act, we are only proving him right. This is a Loki seeking to have no trust.

If he deceives you, it will give us less time to act.

Aye, but at this time, even without help, he reads like an open book. He wears his grudges on his sleeves, to borrow a Midgardian phrase.
