Well, I suppose in the grand scheme of my experiences thus far, this is far from the strangest thing I’ve seen, much less been told. Of course, it would be disingenuous to claim that I’m not somewhat put out by the loss of my assets, to say nothing of my business associate... I anticipate that my Allmate will be particularly difficult to replace. But then, as they say, after the rain, the earth hardens, I suppose.

There’s nothing for it but to start at square one!

I suppose this is the time to ask after any of my acquaintances who might have already arrived. Otherwise, it’s very nice to meet you, residents of New Moore. I’m sure we’ll have many opportunities to talk in the future. Please let me know if there’s anything I should know getting settled in.

I guess so. I've had people leave on me. I dunno if they're just sorta... kidnapped back or what, but a note would be nice.

I'm sure if they'd been kidnapped you would know! Maybe not a note, but surely there must be signs, right? It would take a truly insane person to kidnap someone without a trace. Did you say multiple people have gone missing?

People go missing seems like every month. Always without a trace. They call it "releasing". Like, all their stuff's gone too.

We had something similar as well back home with the local gangs. People disappearing without a trace. They called it being "spirited away". I'd always had trouble believing in it, myself, but you say that here it's systematic? That must take a lot of work on the part of whoever is the mastermind.

Seems pretty random to me. I don't think there's a system to it. No patterns or anything I can tell, at any rate, and I know there are people who look into it. Dunno if they've noticed anything, but I figure if they had, there'd be public notices everywhere, right?

Oh, I don't know. I've always had the sense that nothing that seems random actually is.

Well, to be honest, I think I'm still adjusting to my business partner not being here. We've been together for so long, I guess I've gotten used to commenting aimlessly on every little thing!

What kind of business did you run?

We did a little bit of everything. In the beginning we were very into coordinating tournaments for a popular video game, but recently we've been running something of a security detail for a very important businessman! We were always much better at being consistent in how we did things than in what we did, if that makes any sense.

It's going to be very difficult to go on without him, though, so. I may have to rethink things.

Didn't know video game tournaments were popular enough to make a business out of it. Weird. But, I guess being in the business of being in business is a good business to have.

I'm Marceline, the Vampire Queen. Though I guess it doesn't mean much if I don't really have any actual power or authority here to keep my stupid friends in place or anything.

Oh yes, it's called Rhyme. It's quite popular where I come from. I'm surprised it doesn't exist here, frankly, but I suppose with the state of technology here being what it is I shouldn't be.

Is the "vampire" part also just a title, or...?

Well, of course it's a title, duh. If you're asking whether or not I'm a vampire, the answer is yes. No point being embarrassed about it or anything.

Oh, I'm not embarrassed per se. It's just that vampires don't exist where I come from. How interesting!
