I knew this place was full of some kind of magic. People acted like I was crazy.

Memory loss? And trees and plants everywhere. Magic always causes problems. We're all lucky it wasn't something much worse.

The talent is inherent and I grew up in a wizarding family, so I saw a lot even before I got my own wand. And then I went to school.

Oh. Well... I probably can't do it, then. My parents aren't wizards. They're vampires.

Wizards come up in muggle families all the time. Vampires, huh?

Interesting.

[No judging, mostly.]

Anyway, magic works in strange ways here at times.

[He turns the chicken back and arches his eyebrows at Connor.]

See? Not all magic is bad.

[He has to stare for just a moment, considering Sirius' extremely cavalier reaction.]

You're not afraid of me?

[He blinks a few times in rapid succession once the chicken has been turned back.]

Yeah... I guess that isn't so bad.

You don't seem like you'd want to hurt me.

[Seems kind of adorable, really.]

I can conjure things, too. Do you drink? Eat?

... I don't want to hurt anyone. But most people think I do.

Yeah. I eat. I don't have to drink blood.

If you say you don't want to hurt anyone and I don't see you hurting anyone, there's no reason to be wary of you.

What do you like to eat? What's your name, anyway? I'm Sirius.

[He nods stiffly. He'll accept that, for now. It's not an attitude he's used to. People at home were always assuming the worst of him. Of course, he'd done things to encourage it, but it wasn't as black and white as all that. Nothing was.]

I'm Connor.

[The other question catches him off-guard, and he looks down at his shoes for a moment.]

It used to be whatever food I could get. It was kind of a luxury. I didn't know food could taste good until recently. ... I like chocolate. And pizza.

Nice to meet you, Connor. Let's see, chocolate I should be able to do.

[A few moments, words and movements later and there is a bar of chocolate on the ground. Sirius picks it up and holds it out for Connor.]

There you go. Good magic.

[He eyes it suspiciously, not daring to reach out and take it. Not yet.]

I don't know.

Smart.

[He breaks off a piece for himself and puts it in his mouth.]

Harmless. I promise.

[Okay. Well. If Sirius was willing to eat it, that made him feel more at ease. It probably wasn't poisoned, then. He nods, finally reaching out to accept it.]

All right. I'll try it.

Pretty much addicted to the stuff these days, so trust me. Nothing bad in there.

[Since it's about the only thing helping against the dementors' influence.]

I'll open a magic shop soon. You'll come by, right?

[He takes a bite of the chocolate, looking thoughtful as he chews it.]

I could stop in. It's all -- good magic? Like this?

Some of it could still be used in bad ways, I reckon. But that's unfortunately true of most things. But the magic my friend and me use is never dark.

Like the chocolate?

[Connor nods, and as though that reminded him, he takes another bite.]

So magic... it's like any other weapon. It depends on who's using it.

Yes, it does. That's it. For the most part, it's a person that's choosing to be evil or not. The tools they use are often neutral.

Although where I come from, there is some magic that can only be wielded by a light wizard or witch and some that you can't use without becoming dark yourself.

... I think I understand. I'm still not sure I trust it, but you don't seem like a dark wizard.

[In fact, Sirius has been much kinder to him than most.]

I'm not. Where I come from, I was fighting against dark wizards, actually.
