[ you know who has two thumbs and is over this? this girl. it hadn't been the first time she'd woken up in a hospital bed with a dim memory of the last twenty-four hours, but natasha had to admit it was a little unique to be told that she was previously fictional and now she'd somehow become real. right. let's talk to the nice people and see how this goes. ]

I was looking forward to a long island vacation, but this wasn't quite what I meant.

[ a long sigh. mostly a put-on, but hey, some of it is actual exasperation. she wanted to be on a beach somewhere far away from space aliens. ]

Is there anyone around here who actually knows what is going on? Who hasn't just arrived, but who's been here and has some solid information?

[ she'll address the whole 'fictional' thing later. when she's not managing her temper underneath the surface of collected calm. ]

[N-no... that's perfectly reasonable... She looks crestfallen, but this has happened to her before with Natasha. At least she was a little more prepared this time.]

You or someone very like you. Natasha Romonova. You work with Mr. Stark, Mr. Rogers, Doctor Banner, Mr. Odinson, Mr. Barnes and Mr. Barton, don't you? You're a hero. I was Mr. Stark's secretary and PR agent in the city for a while the last time he was here. You all stayed in his building downtown. Well. The alternate-you did, I suppose.

[Simply.] You were to some people here. They'll remember.

[She doesn't dwell on it, but starts up more briskly, pulling something up on the phone while she explains.]

He did - I'm not sure if he'll be able to get it back from the government but.... I have the address and map for you, if you like. Otherwise, if you look for the building with his name on it in the [named] district, it shouldn't be too hard to find. I think they left all the defenses up and running, but confiscated all the equipment and materials. Mr. JARVIS wasn't there when I went after Mr. Stark left last time, so I couldn't get in, so I'm afraid that's mostly hearsay.

Well, ah, when he wasn't here anymore, the government does what it always seems to do with people's things that they leave behind: it took control of them. The building didn't have anyone living in it, and no one held the title with Mr. Stark gone, so it reverted back to the city, according to the records. I've peeked in the windows before, and while the workshops are still there, all the high-tech equipment he invented and put together or had installed is gone. The filing cabinets and computers are gone, too, and I didn't see any sign of any paper or electronics other than the security bots. ...The pets were gone, too.

Mr. Stark was very protective of his technology. Particularly his new inventions. Maybe Dr. Banner, but then he was released and his things were taken too. About the same time, actually, if not sooner. I don't remember precisely. I've seen and read some things of Mr. Stark's, but not enough to recreate the formulas and such. And the thinks I read were mostly about the phones, so I'm afraid they won't be of much use to you.

[The young woman bobs her head in a sort of bow or curtsy with a soft, slightly sad smile.]

Sheska, ma'am. If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know.

You're very welcome. ...I know you'll be more than fine, but sometimes it's still nice to hear. Good luck!
