All right, people, listen up!

Everyone not arriving through the hospital, there's free lodging and food being put up on the city's money at the Four Saisons Hotel. The men and women in blue uniforms with badges are the local police force. You need help? Ask them.

If you arrive injured, head uphill - near the top there's a big multi-story building with a lot of glass windows - the local hospital. They're aware that walk-ins are going to be up, so don't hesitate to get medical treatment if you need it. Police station's down five blocks to your left if you're looking at the hospital.

All police personnel are immediately on call twenty-four hours a day. Extended hours. If you are called in off shift immediate hazard pay grades apply. Carol, that includes your people if they're registered as consultants with us.

Well over half our new arrivals are not arriving at the hospital. I need everyone but a skeleton staff on the streets getting people straightened out and headed for the Four Saisons. Do what you can to minimize the damage. All calls get routed through Sheska for the station, and Darcy for the Avengers, got it?

[The tight control she's kept over her voice is starting to crack a little - there's a lot of pent up tension and emotion under there.]

Special assignment. I need you to find a girl and try and keep an eye on her from a distance, if you can. Short, black hair pulled up in a halo style, strong voice and personality - forceful. [Pause.] Earthbender. Her name's Toph. Not a big fan of rules, and tends to hang out with a little bald boy in orange and yellow with blue arrow tattoos. Avatar Aang. Just make sure they aren't hurt.

[Conflicting emotions are becoming more evident in her voice, so she keeps it short, almost clipped.]

[She's keeping it together. For now. How much longer that'll last is anyone's guess.]

[It's a basic job application form and appropriate financial forms to allow for compensation - nothing about superheroing required. The only section which might be a little dubious is the "skills/what you'll provide" section. Someone, probably Lin by the strict, precise handwriting style, has attached a sticky note to this section reading "information gathering, specialized skill-set".

Lin herself looks very much like she'd like to sigh, but she's not letting herself. The tension around her eyes is ratcheting up a little, but so far she's keeping herself in check.]

You're working closely with Danvers and the Avengers team?

[ Kate starts filling out the form, eyebrows raising at the mention of financial compensation. That's a nice perk she wasn't expecting. When she sees the sticky note, she raises one brow in Lin's general direction. She fills in what Lin had on the sticky note.

She scoffs at Lin's question. ]

Yeah, whenever they deign to let us join.

[Full pay for hours worked, just like any other police officer - $20 an hour. Not a bad hike for someone mostly working at an ice cream shop, hm? Lin tilts her head in an 'if you want to add more, go ahead' gesture. Still, she sounds surprised at Kate's statement.]

Carol doesn't seem to be the sort to discriminate. I'll talk to her. Consultants of your type usually go under her jurisdiction anyway. This is mostly to keep a central organizational system in a crisis.

Sharing a name with Barton, I'm guessing you also share similar skills. Stealth, acrobatics, ranged weapons?

[ Kate raises an eyebrow. She still doesn't trust Carol - none of the Avengers outside of Clint, really. They've always treated her as a kid, even though now she's out of her teens. Except she's not quite out of her teens. Except she is.

Okay, she still doesn't have a handle on this whole "update" thing.

That's not why she raised her brow though. ]

Dude, Clint is the master of all weapons. I'm not as good as him, but trust me, you give me a weapon, I can fight with it, and excel.

But yes, that sounds about right.

[Lin waves a hand to acknowledge the point about Barton, but doesn't look particularly apologetic. If Barton was the girl's mentor, all well and good, but he was under joint command between her and Carol at the moment, and causes enough trouble in both. Even if it was mostly in fun. He was one of her best, though, and she appreciated that.]

Good. You've been at this a while, going by just the occasional siting, so don't worry, I'm not going to tell you how to do your job. We could use more people at longer range, but if something else is better for it, you're a freelancer. I trust your judgement.

[She makes a point of catching Kate's eye as she says it, just to impress upon her the truth of that statement. Because she does. She trusts Kate, to a point. She wouldn't send her to take care of her potentially mad and dangerous roommate from time to time if she didn't.]

Do you also have superhuman abilities?

[Not an accusation or condemnation. Just a mildly curious question, trying to get a better grasp on this.]

No superhuman abilities. This is all my natural, human, God-given talent. I'm a fast learner, a hard-worker, and dedicated as hell.

[She nods, a bit of a smile pulling at the corner of her mouth. As she suspected. Spirit, fire and training. A passion for the job and the devotion to pull it off.]

I don't doubt it. You've done both team and solo work, I take it. Is there anything in terms of equipment that you would need to requisition?

I'm stocked.

Capable of working with more mundane law enforcement? Or will you stick with your teams?

I'm capable of both.
