[She smiles hesitantly, and her hair moves. Two fluffy cat ears twitch forward from where they'd been lying camouflaged.]

[She looks down briefly and licks her lips, ears flicking uncertainly.]

[ Disregarding the awkward conversation, he jumps a bit. ]

[She brightens considerably when it doesn't look like he's actually going to be mad at her, a tail waving through the background the same color as her ears.]

I think it has to be! I mean, Chief Beifong is some sort of tiger creature! This definitely isn't normal. I've never had this happen before. Is it something that happened on your world sometimes?

You mean, like a shapeshifter? Werewolves and things? They say there are a few werewolves in town, but I don't know that we've ever had real confirmation. And they don't usually do bits at a time, do they? This is really weird... Fairly harmless, I think, unless Chief Beifong decides she wants to eat someone, but that's pretty unlikely. Are you allergic to cats?

[...Ok, that sounded a little bizarre, even if it did resemble some of the things she's read before...]

A storm? A storm gave people powers? That's... unusual, right? Not all storms go about giving people abilities like that? Or did I just live in a very mundane sort of world?

Yeah. It's not normal. Otherwise everyone would have powers and shit. And we can't just let anyone have them, now can we? Who knows what would happen. Loads of dead people, I reckon.

So, then, who controls the storm? I mean, if you can't let people have them. Who gets to choose who gets powers and who doesn't?

[ He shakes his head. ]

[She blinks in surprise and pauses, thinking hard about something.]

But.... Didn't the island do that? Or am I remembering wrong? Can you split into parts like that all the time?

[ He pauses, as if he'd been struck by lightning. He pales. ]

[Her eyes widen and her tail lashes a little with excitement that is impossible to hide like this.]

Oh! But then, you kept yours after...? That's amazing! But that's really a terrible way for you to have to have it manifest... I wonder if you could train yourself to do it at will instead.

[She pauses, everything slowing down as she realizes that he's not very excited about this. It almost looks like he's in pain.]

Well, for the most part, I can. It's just sometimes it gets out of hand and he just really wants t'come out. [ He shrugs a bit. ] He's mostly just a whiny little bitch. Y'really don't wanna meet him, love. It'd just bring ya down, and y'always look so pretty when y'smile.

[She cocks her head, and her ears, trying to make sense out of his argument. It sounded so much like something that might have been leveled at them in school, and she couldn't understand why.... why he would do that to someone else. The compliment makes her blush and smile reflexively, dropping her eyes a moment.]

Maybe if you let him out more he wouldn't be so insistent. Or, um, have so many complaints? I don't know... I think it's really interesting, and I really would like to see it sometime. But don't do it for my sake if you don't want to. Especially if it hurts. It sounds like it would hurt.
