Why do you think we've been brought here?

Someone who apparently had nothin' better to do. Though seriously, it has the makings of a 'trying to take over the world' plan to it.

Except where some people have been here for so long and haven't seen a sign of such plans getting implemented.

Haven't seen anything that would imply that, but it's the first thing that pops into my mind. If they wanted to kidnap people, they would've gone with... [What's the best word?] People who weren't powerful.

Another option could be in taking some of us away, how is it affecting home?

I don't know. I - my best friend was here, briefly, but he was from months before me. And he wasn't missing at that time. I know he wasn't, I'd have known.

No idea whatsoever what that means, either.

Then we're back to square one. Both options are ruled out unless...

Alien kidnapping?

Time travel? Virtual reality? Mental illusion stretching subjective time?

Time travel, maybe, but it wouldn't explain how a lot of come from different worlds. Virtual reality...wouldn't we be able to tell? Same with mental illusion?

Some fancy training equipment that was getting experimented in Wayne Enterprises and I volunteered. But nothing that was actually trying to pretend it was real.

You a hero or somethin'? Related to Nick Fury?

Wayne Enterprises is a heavy-industry company that specializes in advanced technologies and electronics.

Obviously, not everything goes into mass production.

I hadn't heard - or read - Nick Fury's name until coming here.

[Which is not the same as saying that he isn't a hero. And Dick seeks the network ID via the Vigilance network, just to check.]

No, but doubtful they take volunteers easily.

He doesn't like havin' his name tossed around. Scary guy.

What are you then?

Yes, well, okay, it probably helps that I'm the boss's ward. And, yes, he makes sure everything is completely secure before he even lets me breach the subject.

Just somebody who comes from a place where, you know, people who are heroes rarely toss that out in the open, or even near open. Requires a certain level of trust, and all that.

If you're that serious about getting outta here, might wanna speed up that trust factor a little. I get where ya comin' from, but the sooner we figure this out, the sooner we can get back ta our own lives.

I know, I know! But I do make sure I'm useful, rather than just in it for the ride.

I mean, obviously I'm in it for the ride, too, but - you get what I mean.

Except where bad people from back home have been here. On the off chance that they might remember something when - if - they return...

It's complicated. And it's not my secret alone, either. But I'll give it some thought, thanks. I'm not sure anything will get us back to our actual lives, though. Not with - one of my brothers having been here for three years or so.

That's a big 'if' though, but I understand your concern.

...Let's not even go there. Just because your brother has been here for three years, doesn't mean you'll be the same. Or that both of ya will stick it out here for another year.

My brother's been here for three years. My best friend was here for, I dunno. About a month. Another brother has been here three times. Another brother who was here and has now been 'released' was ten years old.

I know it doesn't mean anything. I don't have to like it.

Think a lot of us are in the same boat. Don't like it, but no idea how to change it.

I'm not sure we're trying anywhere near hard enough to learn how.

Well, what can we do? Shake down the doctors and nurses for what they know? Tried that once, nearly landed my ass in jail.

Or would you rather cause a scene ta see if any powers that be respond?

That's a bit on the obvious side. But going places undercover is possible for a while.

There are also non-human sources to tap into.

Why do people only aim for the things that will obviously fail, here?

Going undercover? They know who we are. The doctors and nurses gotta have a list of who's still here.

Like who?

Dunno, maybe they're not trained on how to handle a escape plan.
