So, while we're having a bit of a quiet time, sort of, question to ponder and/or discuss:

Why do you think we've been brought here?

Someone who apparently had nothin' better to do. Though seriously, it has the makings of a 'trying to take over the world' plan to it.

Except where some people have been here for so long and haven't seen a sign of such plans getting implemented.

Haven't seen anything that would imply that, but it's the first thing that pops into my mind. If they wanted to kidnap people, they would've gone with... [What's the best word?] People who weren't powerful.

Another option could be in taking some of us away, how is it affecting home?

More or less. The only people monitoring us here were the doctors and nurses when we 'arrived'. I haven't noticed anyone else trying to do that.

Truthfully? Punishment and testing.

Ouch. Which raises the question what have we all done to deserve such punishment.

Some of us have enough dirt on our hands to go around. Others, well, I'm sure that there's some sort of person with a twisted sense of morality making the calls.

I don't know. It might be someone's idea of a joke. Or a collection. Or an experiment. Or maybe the world outside is desperate to have the best and the brightest to help them in some dire need, but then wouldn't there be better and faster ways to get people ready to help?

In some cases, it might be to save people from a horrible future... But then why would they send people back to that? If they do go back when they're released. We just don't know.

And if it's a joke, it's a stupidly long-term one. Because who holds up a joke for three years?

I suppose it depends on how long it keeps being funny, or entertaining to them. I wonder if that's why everything keeps going mad from time to time.

[In order of probability:

-Containing a natural process beyond their control
-Testing new technology for localized alteration of boundaries between universes
-Advanced Technical Research on the things we bring with us
-They're looking for something they haven't found yet, and we're the discard pile

I've run through about a hundred other scenarios, but those four are about an order of magnitude more likely than the rest.

And, you know what? Neither am I.

That's not quite what I mean. Say they've got a reason for opening dimensional rifts, and a way to do it at will, but they can't control where it goes or what comes through. There's some evidence for that.

Maybe whatever they're looking for hasn't shown up yet. We're here, in a holding pattern, as... a control group for the experiment. Or ongoing documentation of their past results.

Either some sort of social experiment, a mass sacrifice, or some sick asshole's making a reality show out of us.

If it actually is the last option, do you think we should look our 'best' for the cameras?

There's way too little audience feedback for that. Trust me, I was born for entertainment.

It doesn't appear to be a popular theory, but it almost seems that the process of bringing us here isn't something someone is controlling. We should consider the possibility that this is a natural phenomenon - or at least one which nobody can influence - and that the 'authorities' are simply responding to this bleed through from other realities.

Of course, it is entirely possible that someone is governing this - though even so I would posit that they may not have as much control as many of us seem to assume. There's no indication that they care who we are, which would seem to imply that - although there may have been factors which influence who is chosen - there is no conscious decision as to who should be brought here. Therefore, I would think it likely in that occurrence that the point would be to test some sort of technology that alters or influences the boundaries between realities.

Well, those would be my two guesses, at any rate.
