As for what is actually going on, are you aware that this is a philosophical question of great complexity? Humankind commonly seeks such questions, but the results of their searches are often inconclusive or unsatisfying due to an inability to recognize or accept valid answers.

Nobody seems to really believe that story, although the medical staff seem to believe the story themselves.

Personally, I think it's more likely we're simply bleeding through the walls of the universes - whether it's a natural phenomenon or someone is controlling it remains a mystery, because we are unfortunately trapped on this island. There's a forcefield caging us in, one more powerful and advanced than anything I've ever seen before - and I've been all the way to the end of the universe before!
