Time passes, and you start to notice a few trends about this place. People start to give in too easily. Sure, you've got your idiots who think they have a shot leaving this place on their homemade piece of crap boat, but the rest of you? You settle in. Crazy crap's happening at night, but do you pause and deal? No, instead, you're worrying about whether someone knows you're gay or if Tim even gives a crap about that.

Hint: my brother doesn't. It wouldn't have even crossed his mind. You see, with our upbringing? We're only interested if it keeps an image intact. Sorry if that's disappointing for anyone interested in him. I'm just laying it out.

But me? I'm just sitting here and watching. You've gotta wonder what these idiots are doing. Settling. Can you really say you're happy up in here? You might find your music and be entertained by bad TV, but you'll forever be fake to the assholes running this joint.

I mean, I guess I don't blame you. You see idiots leaving on a boat, and you think: once that fails, I might as well give up. But the best way to get to someone is to take it by force. Deal with it from the inside.

But maybe not. Maybe this is just the life you've been looking for, Stepford style without any Brady Bunch reruns to keep you occupied. Couldn't be that bad, right?

I'm sure you're all thinking: this jackass is taunting me. But let's consider something real. Ever consider how the power goes off at night during that time? You might wanna look into that. You may even find your Family Matters reruns because of it.

We're due for another rash of them, by the way -- they're much heavier right around the turn of the month, and lightest in the middle of the month.

All right, so Ra's is a decent teacher of observational skills as well. And I would never have denied you were a good student.

A few demographic clusters in who disappears, but there are enough outliers to suggest that it's not the work of an individual targeting a specific profile. Never any sign of struggle, never any forensic evidence, never any witnesses. No scene, for that matter -- impossible to tell precisely when or where they vanish, let alone how. The government knows it's happened within 24 to 72 hours, judging by their updating of police records, and presumably they know something about the methodology if they can figure that out. I'd call it a cyclical paranormal phenomenon, rather than the work of human agency, but unless I can pinpoint crime scenes it's hard to be sure.

Either that, or we really were brought here by boom tube, and a few lucky people have stumbled into it and gone home. But that wouldn't explain the monthly cycle.

I think it might be a good idea to look into why they think we're fictional. They've gotta have some credence for it, right? That might help us out.

I've been working on the assumption that it's their way of understanding alternate universes. God knows not everyone here is from back home.

It's even occurred to me once or twice that they might be right.

But there's gotta be an origin point. There's always an origin point.

I wouldn't be surprised, but I want some proof. There's gotta be someone looking into this, but then again, their tech is a bit ... primitive.

The people in town with better tech don't seem to be getting any farther than we are. But you're right.

I think part of the question is, how did they handle this before they had their operations on the island set up? But if I were them, that isn't data I'd keep on-site. In fact, the nice thing about a remote island is that keeping crucial information in complete isolation is easier. The boat kids had the right idea -- there's nothing more vital than getting a line of communication to the outside.

While I'm daydreaming about that, though, I'll see what I can work with the government angle in the meantime -- as someone who has yet to antagonize the local authorities.
