video; how not to make an entrance
[ and here we have (1) count 'em one tiny tiny viking clutching like his life depended on it and standing in front of the hospital looking more or less in a state of shock.
Just mumbling to himself. Yeah, the turning-it-on part was an obvious accident ]
Wow. This is totally an okay situation.
Hand me a thing and send me off. I'm fine by the way. I'm not freaking out or anything. Thanks for the mental health consideration. Your pep talk was absolutely no help at all but I appreciate your effort which was not really an effort at all. I can contact a network. Odin help whoever thought this one up. What's a network? Gee, I don't know. You know who's fictional? You're fictional. You freaky white-wearing freak. [ something makes a sound and he jumps a little ]
That's it. I've died. It's not even Valhalla because the world is way too hot heat-wise and things are probably on fire. I'm melting. Lucky me. Fire and brimstone for you, Hiccup. It's okay we upgraded the afterlife to have odorless fire and brimstone for maximum comfort while you suffer a hysterical breakdown. Have fun with your metal abominations. We'll miss you in Berk.
I feel so honored to have this experience.

Ah, right. People can vanish just as suddenly as they arrive, with no warning. It's called being 'released', but as long as we're trapped here, we have no way of knowing what that really means. They sometimes come back, but when they do they have no memory of their previous time here.
So you're stuck here and at some point you may or may not disappear to who-knows-where and if you come back you're going to have to start all over again with everything. Literally everything. What's the point? This is the worse way to live. Ever.
And I live in a place where it hails for three months, the past time was killing things, and everybody thought I was an utter failure until yesterday! I'm-
[ covers his face with his hands ] Uggggh.
It's just my opinion, but the people you might find here - the relationships you might build - can be worth it. It's not a life that any of us would have chosen, to be sure. But since we don't have a choice but to be here, we may as well make the best of it.
Gone.
[ carefully sets the camera up in front of him before pulling his knees up and folding his arms on his knees ] Yeah. Might as well. It's worth giving a shot.
I'm not sure if it helps, but I think the popular theory is that what we do here doesn't actually affect anything back home, and there's a version of you that's still there. It might not help you here, but it means you didn't necessarily abandon everyone, that whatever good you could have done there - you're still doing it.
[His smile returns, though it's gentler this time.] Do you need help finding your apartment, or something to eat? Do you have any other questions?
[ Quiet pause. That helps. Might not be true but at least it's not completely hopeless... ] I like that theory.
-Apartment? Oh. Right. The living space they gave me. [ holds his arm up to look at his key. He ended up looping a string on his sleeve through it and tying it to his wrist when they handed it to him ] Yeah, I probably need to ...find that. And I have infinity questions. Can't imagine you'd want to keep answering things nonstop.
Where are you now? I could come find you and show you around, if you like. Find your apartment, and show you the local stores and shops and restaurants are.
And nonsense. I'm a police officer, so it's actually part of my job to help get people settled in. I would be more than happy to keep answering your questions for you - though I admit, I may not have time for infinity.
[ Sits up and looks around. ] Between the black path and the-... this place. [ points at the hospital behind him. He's just sitting on the curb. ] ...Thanks. That'd be great. Probably better than me wandering around later trying to figure that one out.
[ slightly confused expression. police officer = vikings don't have police officers ???
police officer = solider!
police = law?
police officer = enforcer of laws ✓
Itsuki = Authority figure! Listen to him. ✓ ✓ ]
I'll try to cut myself off at some point.
[video] -> [action]
[He nods sagely.] All right. Stay there, I'll be with you shortly.
*****
[Five minutes later, Koizumi is walking up the street to the hospital, with his hands in his pockets and a cheerful smile on his face. He waves as he approaches.] Hello, Hiccup.
[action]
Okay. [ hugs his knees and stays put until the five minutes are up and there's a Koizumi walking down the street. Then he pushes himself up-- stands on his actual foot and holds his arms out for balance before straightening himself out. He really wishes he had some time to get used to this and maybe tweak it before getting thrust into tropical island in the future. Awkwardly waves ]
Hello. [ Itsuki's normal sized! Hurray! You're not the smallest any-- no wait. you're still smaller than this guy. Crap ]
[action]
Either way, I'm sure we can start making a dent on those infinity questions of yours.
[action]
I'd appreciate any dent.
[action]
[He starts leading the way.] Ask away.
[action]
[ Starts following, slowly. It's not like there's a dragon to lean on. Give him a bit and he's got the hang of it. No biggie. He might do that little jog to catch up and walk next to him instead of letting himself trail behind a couple of times so Koizumi doesn't have to slow down any. ]
Ask away... okay. Um! [ silence for 3...2..1 ] Wow. This hasn't happened before. I always have like a ton of things I wanna say and get the 'not now' but here you are all 'ask away!' and my brain is going totally blank.
[action]
[Koizumi is walking at a slower pace than usual anyway, to make it easier on Hiccup - though he does it in a way that doesn't draw attention to it. He's not dragging his feet, he simply looks like he's in no particular hurry.
He smiles openly.] Perfectly understandable. I can certainly see how this would be a different situation than you.
Perhaps now that you don't have to worry and try so hard to get answers to your questions, they're just not as urgent anymore?
[action]
[ He appreciates the slow pace. It gives him time to take everything in anyway. Like that thing that blinks right there... or how massively tall everything is without being something natural. Hiccup finds himself leaning his head back at one point at a building. ] ...Veeery very different situation.
Yeah, maybe. Or my head got overwhelmed and stopped working. I like your theory better though.
[action]
Well, we're almost at the apartment complex. Let me know if you remember any of your questions.
[action]
Is it a complex because it's complex?
[action]
I suppose it must be. Perhaps they call it a complex because there are a lot of apartments, a whole that has a bunch of smaller parts, and something is usually considered more complex the more parts it has.
Though I suppose, knowing the English language, the term probably became associated in an unconventional and much more improbable manner.
[action]
Probably. It's a weird language from what I've heard. But lots and lots of apartments. Got it. Tons of people in sectioned living space.
[action]
Speaking of complex, that's the building there.
[action]
That thing? [ Looking up at the apartments. ] How...spacious? It doesn't look lived in.
