And then I wasn't sure because I thought it might be an alien thing.

I found out when I was a counselor there are a lot of those alien things.

Oh, I would be careful of putting this kind of thing on these journal things, though. I'm pretty sure I've been on a watch list since the force field broke my nose.

As far as I've gathered, it's a troll thing. Or maybe something endemic to people from that universe; I don't know if it'd happen to the kids as well. But yes, it indicates that they're dead.

Doesn't happen to other people on the island who are dead at home. Thankfully.

How many people here were dead before?

There's a support group for it.

That I know of, nine have been dead at least once.

Five, I think, were dead on arrival. I mean, alive once they got here, but before that.

And there were quite a few more who have since been released.

And I'm sure I've missed at least a few, including anyone killed and revived during their time here. That spikes the number by quite a bit.

Not often. But we've had one serial killer, one spree killer, one island-wide crime wave, one terrorist attack, and one... I don't know if I should call it a battle royale or a massacre... in the last 3 years.

The nonfictional population of the island has dropped about a hundred in that time.

Yeah. So far, if something kills one of us, we always come back.

They do. But so far, no organized protests, no readily visible unrest. From what I've gathered, while nobody here will talk about the world outside, a few people have mentioned passing psych evals before they got to work here. Usually you don't need a psych eval to run a hot-dog stand, so I can only assume the island screened all its immigrants.
