All right.  We made good time getting those boats launched, everyone.  Good job.

Not done quiet yet, though.  We're not going to lose a single person tonight.

Rescue crews will be mobilizing already, so let's make this nice and easy for them.   Everyone who's still on the Medusa, sound off.  State your current location, what you're doing, any injuries, and anything important you can see about what's happening with the boat.

I'm on the aft deck right now.  Ship's electronics are going out, but I think I can keep the intercom running as long as we're above water.  Since we don't have any red-headed tech whizzes on board that I know of, I'll be co-ordinating and keeping us networked.

Jenny here, in the dining room. We're trying to get the tables out of the ship floor to make some rafts. No one injured this side.

Excellent. How many people do you have with you? If you have someone to spare, send them to the recycling bins for plastic bottles -- best improvised floats you're likely to find.

Anywhere you can find balloons, waterbottles... lightweight plastic trash cans. Every gallon of water displaced gives eight pounds of lift. I've heard from at least a dozen people so far, and if we figure a person averages out at a hundred and fifty pounds, before figuring in the eight of the raft and the drag from the sinking boat....

We need a lot of lift.

Not to worry about me, gorgeous. I was helping clear the hallways and finding anything that might help. I found a fireaxe and began taking apart some doors.

Don't get yourself drowned. Get anything light and watertight you can find up to the dining room -- door should work great, a lot of surface area is excellent.

If you can make your way up here to the aft deck, there are a couple guys with wrenched shoulders from lowering the boats. Probably easier to bring injuries to you than to dispatch you all over the ship looking for people.

You seem like kind of a low-tech guy. If you say you can keep the electronics going, I'm not one to doubt, but it might help if I know what you were going to do and how it worked.

I can't say I know how it works, but I can generate enough lightning to keep this electricity-consuming device alive, at the very least. If you have the know-how, I have the means.

We need current, but not too much of it or we'll blow the circuits... small, controlled amounts of lightning, moving constantly over a large area.

When the ship goes under, it will create and inescapable whirlpool to pull any stragglers along with it. We need to get these makeshift rafts as far from the ship as possible before that happens.

I don't know if we can build a big enough raft for everyone in, and launch it early enough to get away. I'm trying to work the math on it, but... too many people and variables to figure it out for sure.
