It was far from the first time Sirius had woken up after a full moon, feeling as worn as anyone would after being on their feet the whole night. Their paws, in this case, to be precise. Some factors made this time special, one that was very sobering to think about: It was the first time he had done this without two others, one who'd never run again and one who'd run from them. And another factor, that made him wake up with a smile. This was actually happening again. They might be all that was left, but at least they were together.
He barely remembered getting back to... Remus's apartment, from the looks of it, but the memories returned fast, now that he woke up in bed next to his friend, after the first sleep in months that had been free of nightmares. Perhaps it was because he was close enough to Remus to feel his body's warmth, perhaps it was just because he'd been too exhausted for memories and conscience to haunt him.
There was a pang of guilt, because he knew that this night would always be something Remus dreaded, but he realized that he was already looking forward to the next. He rolled on his back and looked up at the ceiling, listening to Remus's breathing to keep from thinking for just a few minutes longer.
